(review) Vermillion – ‘Vermillion EP’

Besides New York hardcore family, there is also thriving punk scene beneath the ground. Vermillion are hailing from Long Island, NY and this is their brand new EP. This one contains five songs. Music of Vermillion is raw sounding punk rock with lots of street punk influences, also riot grrrl especially in singer’s voice which is phenomenal. Her voice can shout, scream, sing melodic clean lines and change in a second. ‘Needle Up My’ is raw punk with almost grungy feel and superb clean anthemic chorus made for singing along. ‘Vocal Retake’ is more straight forward pure punk song with great main vocal line melody and also dual backing vocal harmony making it with its energy and melody one of my favorites on this one. It also has double bass drumming if I hear it right and reminded me a bit of Bad Cop/Bad Cop in some parts. ‘Send You To Hell’ is short but sweet outburst of hardcore punk anger and speed, topped with screaming vocals. ‘Vermillion’ is more slower, ballad with great chorus ‘I want you dead’ just made for singing along and having that melody to make goosebumps on your skin. ‘Halloween’ has that raw hardcore punk speed back again reminding us that this band is capable for hardcore energy along with gentle melodies. Good one.

(record review) Stray From The Path-Internal Atomics(UNFD)

cover

Long Island˙s Stray From The Path released new album with UNFD. These guys worked hard for over ten years to become a respected well known name in the modern hardcore scene and this new album is a proof of their persistence, zeal and willingness to bring their message to the crowd. The ten new songs are angry, in your face testament to the rotteness of today˙s world and problems that we need to change fast. Stray From The Path created their own sound with some obvious RATM influences but took it to the higher level with rap influenced angry shouted and screamed vocals, heavy hardcore and deep metalic riffs and political and social sensitive lyrics. This album is a great modern hardcore album with songs Second Death and Beneath The Surface being highlights for me personally, but album as a whole is a very strong record indeed!

(news-hardcore) Hangman Announces New LP on Flatspot Records, the new single is out too!

a0463398172_16
Long Island’s HANGMAN return after two years with “One Mistake,” the crushing new single from their upcoming debut full-length One By One, set for release on September 20th via Flatspot Records (see Revolver Magazine premiere).
“From the get-go on “One Mistake,” Hangman wear their influences on their sleeve, opening with a very classic intro that recalls famous entries by Leeway, No Warning, Outburst and more. Then the cut shifts into a very groove-oriented gear, with the drummer riding the hi-hat Nineties style and vocalist Dan Mulligan coming across with all of the fury of an early Karl Buechner” says Revolver of the new single.
Fresh off the heels of non-stop tours, the LIHC quintet return with their grooviest, most punishing release to date. One By One was produced and mixed by Greg Thomas and Chris Teti at Silver Bullet Studios in Connecticut, was mastered by Bill Henderson at Azimuth Mastering, and features guest vocals by Death Threat’s Aaron Butkus on the title track “One by One.” You can preorder the album here!
HANGMAN specialize in New York Hardcore of the most vitriolic variety. Armed with razor-sharp riffage and a vocalist that scorns all that he sees, Hangman propel their way through vicious grooves and bruising breakdowns, always brimming with the palpable energy, passion, and anger that they have become known for since their inception in 2014. Formed by guitarist Michael Smith and vocalist Dan Mulligan, Hangman have spent the past five years culling the fiercest elements from legendary groups like Madball, Neglect, and Vision of Disorder to create their own volatile batch of hardcore anthems, which they have perfected during tours with No Warning, Backtrack, and Death Threat (among others) across the USA, Mexico, and Europe, including performances at such festivals as United Blood, This is Hardcore, and Belguim’s Ieperfest.
