(review) Oh The Humanity – S/T (Hellminded Records)

595956

Oh The Humanity was formed in 2012 by five friends coming from different musical backgrounds within the scene. This is their new record which contains 11 songs. The music of Oh The Humanity is just the way I like it, meaning fast and a bit technical and metalic hardcore punk, melodic, uplifting and energetic at the same time. The songs are mainly fast, influenced by all of the nineties skatepunk heroes, yet enough technical to be likeable to the newer kids who like their skatepunk more technical and complex. The guitar work is just amazing, especially in one of my personal favorites called Gainesville. Besides fast and more aggressive yet melodic stuff, there are slower, more emotional mid tempo punk rock songs like amazing Never Worse. Also, one of the songs I must mention as being one of my favorites is Defeated. Everyone who knows me can tell how I always pay attention to vocals and harmonies of the backing vocals. This time, everything is amazing. Singer is neither snotty nor boring, enough dramatic to emphasize the song parts and enough melodic to tell all of the emotions behind the song lyrics. Backing and dual vocal harmonies are done awesome. So, if you are a fan of such music, go get this one, you will not regret it.

(review) DA-SKATE – La Teoria De Los Septenios

cover

I just love South America and the scene over there with so many fantastic bands coming out and delivering their goods, we in Europe are not too familiar with and I love to discover new favorites there. This time, Da-Skate from Mercedes, Argentina released their new one with 12 songs of melodic hardcore/skate punk just the way it was meant to be. The song titles and lyrics are in Spanish language so I don´t understand what they are about since I don´t speak that wonderful language, but the music speaks for itself. Music of Da-Skate is melodic hardcore punk, leaning more on skate punk of nineties that I love so much and on which I grew up on. What immediately falls to ear and mind upon listening are vocals. This voice is so nice, melodic and sweet, but not cheesy or snotty, I love vocal lines, epic choruses and backing vocal harmonies like in one of my personal favorites La colina de las cruces. Also, these songs, mainly faster and strong, also have a certain dose of melancholy and sadness that continues for me throughout the record upon listening and I love that feeling, during some songs it made goosebumps on my skin really strong. This one is another jewel in the crown of skate punk underground. My personal favorites: La colina de las cruces, La verdad duele…, Vis pacem, para bellum.

(review) In Case Of Ire – Songs to Consume in a Consumerist Society

a3895468769_10

In Case Of Ire are from Gothenburg, Sweden and they are in no way strangers to the pages of this zine, because I already reviewed their e.p. a while ago and now it is time for their debut full length to be unleashed upon the scene.

This one contains 9 songs of nice melodic hardcore punk with smart and interesting songwriting, bordering between harsher version of hardcore with gang backing vocals made for singing along at gigs and more emotional, melodic side of things. I can even hear some noise and post hardcore like in Acquittal, which is one of my favorite songs on this record and if I must compare this band to someone, to me they sound like a mixture of Misconduct and Refused and I love it. The vocals are diverse, from shouting, screaming to beautiful melodic voice along nice harmonies and backing vocals. The lyrics are a nice mixture of personal yet between the lines you can read a lot more. Two more songs that are standouts for me as highlights are Shatter and Bad Habits. So, support the cause and support good hardcore. Go listen!
