(review) Strain – Road of Rock

Time to support your local neighboring scene, to be exact Strain from Slovenia. These guys are hailing from Gornja Radgona, near in Slovenia and this is their brand new e.p. This record contains four songs and the music these guys play is a mixture of metal and stoner rock with some nice melodies thrown in and reminding me of old school eighties metal mixed with modern touch stoner which I am not an avid fan of, but this record is done decently and with awesome songwriting craft. I especially love song called Demons, which I listened for couple of times in a row, but all four songs are great and if you are a fan of such music go pick this one up.

(review) Super Monster Party – Permadeath

cover

Now this one was fun! Super Monster Party call themselves Video Game Metal because their new record contains songs based on old school retro video games like Altered Beast and Splatterhouse. This one totally brought me back to my childhood when we were bunch of misfits and no goods just roaming local arcade at the swimming pool playing all those old school games and just being jerks and horror freaks we still are today.

This record contains twelve songs of melodic metal with horrorpunk influences. The song called Altered Beast is based on melodic metal guitar work, yet vocal lines are done in the vein of let us say Blitzkid and I love it totally. There are power melodic metal influences, like double pedal bass and guitar work, I must here say that all musicianship on this record is superb. We can also hear some thrash metal riffing with horrorpunk influenced vocal lines in It´s Resident Evil, one of my favorites on this record.

I love the dark ballad atmosphere of Another Castle, and keyboard piano melodies in the background add to the heaviness, drama and intensity of the songs. Also, one of the highlights on this album I must mention is Streets Of Rage, just perfect song for fist pumping in the air and singing along to the anthemic chorus. This album and band is such wonderful surprise. Love it! Go and listen!

(review) The Order Of The Fly – Into This Abyss

The Order Of The Fly is a proof of versatility and richness of horror punk scene. This band is celebrating their 20th anniversary of mischief and what better way to celebrate it than with the new album.

This band from San Bernardino led by Ralphie Repulsive on bass and vocals, always was one of my favorite horror punk bands. Why? Because they mix horror punk, hardcore, metal, industrial, gothic and even EBM in their songwriting creating dark and thickened atmosphere, almost you can feel it and touch it while listening. Yet, they retained a lot of melodies at the same time still holding on to their punk and hardcore roots thus delivering the best from both worlds.

This new album contains 15 songs carrying the story, couple of them being kind of interludes, making and creating atmosphere for the continuation of the main storyline in lyrics. Ralphie is screaming, whispering, singing and his vocals are soo fantastic, I love how they fit perfectly to the different songs and their atmosphere. Dual synth work is superb, guitar riffs catchy, metallic and thick, backing vocal harmonies awesome like they should be in this kind of bands. Double bass on drums, fast parts, slower rolling songs are totally fit for the album and this band will just never disappoint. Favorite songs: Pull You Under, The Persistence Of Vermin, Ashes.
