Hailing from Belarus capital Minsk, THORNYWAY is a progressive metalcore four-piece emerged in 2010 whose debut full-length album “Absolution” was launched back in 2014. Almost four years later, the band is ready to unleash their sophomore effort entitled “Awaken,” but they ask your help in achieving their goals with this ambitious project. A Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign was recently launched where THORNYWAY try to raise $5,000 for mixing the album at the Anthropocide Mixing & Mastering Studio.

Speaking about this new material, the band commented: “Awaken’ is expression of our attitude towards Human Nature: Striving, Faith, Love, Forgiveness. The album reflects the events taking place in the modern world. Each listener will find in it something close for themselves. ‘Awaken’ is a logical follow-up to our first album, ‘Absolution,’ which was released in 2014.

All songs on “Awaken” are recorded, and the album is to be delivered to the mixing and mastering studio for further treatment. You can head over to THORNYWAY’s Bandcamp profile to hear their first album which also gives a small hint what can be expected from “Awaken.”

Visit the Kickstarter crowdfunding page and help the band in reaching their goal by contributing and receiving fine perks in return. A video where the band talks about the campaign can be seen below.

(record review)MBURNS-“More To Life Than This”(NOTA BENE Records & Publishing)

MBurns from Croatian town Crikvenica, Rijeka area have a new album out and it was about time to review it in this zine.

The guys were formed in 2006. and played an impressive list of gigs throughout the region and European countries, gathering experience what we can hear in their music. This is their brand new studio opus of 12 tracks.

Everyone who knows me can tell that I dont like metalcore very much. MBurns play that vision of modern metal, with some groovy riffs, aggressive and fast forward songs and a lot of memorable melodic hooks. The melodies and clever use of clean, almost atmospheric vocals is what sets Mburns apart from similar bands making me love their music on this awesome album. Production wise the album sounds world class and if the guys were from Germany or USA they would sell 10 000 discs and play the largest festivals in the world. Almost every song on the album has a unique atmosphere making it aggressive but almost sad and desperate at the same time(for example excellent “Come Meet Us At The Bottom”). Another highlight of the album is in my opinion “Burn It To The Ground” which is an absolute hit. Last weekend the guys played at the gig near my hometown but I made it just in time for last song because they played first of three bands that evening and we were late. I am usually sceptic about bands and albums of this style but this one is a world class album by the world class band!

(record review)VACANT HOME-“Reflect, Respond”

reflect_respond_art

I fuckin love the Australian hardcore scene, it is one of my favourite scenes in the world with many excellent bands like Toe To Toe, Deez Nuts, Clowns…coming out every day. I find some great Australian bands almost every month and it only deepens my respect and love for their scene. This time around we have a new record by Vacant Home, band that is coming from Perth City. This record contains seven songs. Vacant Home are playing modern version of melodic hardcore with very heartfelt and emotional lyrics, so I can almost characterize this band as melodic hardcore that is bordering with screamo. They actually remind me a little off a Croatian band called Mališa Bahat. The vocals are harsh but not screamy, rather shouted. The lyrics are very beautiful and they are depressive but I can also catch a glimmer of hope somewhere in there. The tempo is mostly smart and midtempo rythm but there is some occasional faster drumming and I can also hear some indie guitar lines in some songs like “Shiver” for example. This is nice hardcore record done from the heart, so give it a chance and spin it a couple of times.
