Nadir is an interesting name, hopefully the guys were inspired by the Nadir tribe horde from David Gemmel´s novels for the name of the band. This trio features Robbie Swartwood of Off With Their Heads singing and playing guitar with Mike Foti on bass and and Arthur Bergevin on drums. The music of Nadir is punk with pretty depressive and darkened atmosphere or that is how I felt when I listened to the record. There are 8 songs on this record and the record as a whole has very nice rawer sounding production with great song structures mainly midtempo punkrock from the heart with two acoustic punk songs. For me, somehow Early Graves, Paper Trails and Born To Die Alone somehow worked the best but all of the songs are great raw, yet melodic punkrock with a lot of atmosphere and emotion. Good one.

(record review)Coming Out Swinging-Step Aside(WTF Records)

Coming Out Swinging

Coming Out Swinging are working class, no bullshit, no holds barred hardcore punk band with members from New York and Connecticut area. I listened and reviewed for our zine their new record out with WTF Records.

WTF-028 COVER

What immediately comes to mind when listening to this record is how old school sounding the music of this band is. I love it. Sounds like all that European and NYHC bands that I loved and grew up listening in the 1990-ies. The record contains 8 songs of dirty, maybe sometimes rock n roll sounding hardcore punk(F.M.L.), that old school hardcore anthemic riff, heard for thousandth time, but still gives you goosebumps(You Lose), lyrics bringing tears to life missing fallen bros and sisters(Forever-my personal favorite), dangerous moshing(Stand Up And Fight), Madball-esque songs(For You), street/oi(House Of Pain) and humour(Too Drunk To Bbq), has holding your pumping fist in the air all throughout the record. The singer sounds somehow to me like Dwid from Integrity circa Systems Overload era, which is awesome. The lyrics are usual hardcore themes, a bit clicheed, but they still turn the old spark in my heart into burning flames hehe. This is a great old school sounding hardcore record.

(news-punk)Night Surf Sign with Wiretap Records; Band Debuts Title Track Off ‘Enemies’ EP, Out September 7

night_surf

Born from the remnants of Brooklyn’s Habits in 2018, Night Surf takes a straight-forward, driving and hook splattered approach to the darker side of pop-punk.

Night Surf debuted with a digital EP, Blasted in 2017, produced and recorded by Jesse Cannon (The Menzingers, Man Overboard) at Cannon Found Soundation in Union City, NJ.

In their short tenure, the band has provided local support to touring acts like The Penske File, Typesetter, and makes frequent appearances in Asbury Park, NJ with band friends Latewaves and The Vansaders.

Now they’re back with their follow up EP, which picks up right where the last EP left off. Listen to the first and title track from the EP, “Enemies, which is out September 7th, via SoCal based Wiretap Records.
