Blue Youth are one of the undiscovered jewels of the underground. These guys play noisy punk with a lot of nervous riffs, apocalyptic screaming vocals and complex song structures creating their vision of noise hardcore. There are 7 songs on this record out with Zegema Beach Records and if you are a fan of the more brutal side of punk with even some screamo and sludge thrown into the song structures, then this record is the right one forya. This is crushing and unrelenting noisecore sometimes reminding me of Deadguy in a way, but maybe it is only me hearing that. But, under all the heaviness, there are some subtle layers of melody therein discovering the punkrock roots and hearts of this fine band. Recommended songs: The Power, The Past.
Sweden´s Jazzbrunch have a 7 inch e.p. out with Zegema Beach Records. It is a good one. This band combines darkened hardcore, emo, screamo and post hardcore/post metal overtones in their music. There are two songs on this seven inch e.p. both having different and special atmosphere. They both have a lot of sombre and sad melody, countered with tortured screaming vocals, atmospheric parts equal amount of catchy melody which makes you sad, aggression and noise. Idiocracy is a more straight forward songs with more aggression in the sound, while An Invitation to an Enormous Disappointment is my favorite being complex ode to darkness, hauntings of the soul and how to survive everyday onslaught of your personal demons. A great record indeed!
Norway is not only a land for black metal, but there are plenty good hardcore punk bands there. This time I reviewed the record by IEatHeartAttacks out with Zegema Beach Records.
There are 12 songs on this record combining previous releases on one place. The music of this band can be categorized as harsh hardcore punk with noise influences. The whole material is very nervous sounding hardcore, but there are nice underlayers of melody as in one of my favorites Liar. The overall atmosphere of the record is very gloomy and dark, at least that is how I perceived it. This is not your happy merry go round hardcore with Sun and flowers and smiling, no, this is something much more powerful and delivered hits you straight to the heart and mind. Other favorites on this record for me are The Six and Please Just Dance Death. I don´t know how and why I missed this record and this band, but I totally love it.
