Hostile Omish are Ohio punk legends and they are celebrating thirty years in the scene. This is my bad that I never heard of them prior to this record. But, now I am glad that I corrected this mistake. This new record out with Jib Machine Records is their first one with new material in thirteen years and the record contains nineteen songs. The band describes themselves as barncore punk hehe, nice one indeed! The music of Hostile Omish is energetic, fast paced hardcore punk with a lot of melody and still remaining harsh enough to be enjoyed also by the punks who are not too fond of melodic skatepunk. Harley Girl is the right example of how this band sound, no wonder they chose that one to be single off the album. The song structures are way different in some songs, making this material really interesting for listening with no fillers on the record. The vocals are just right, neither too harsh, nor too melodic for the music. The lyrics are pretty cheesy and funny with song titles I Sat On My Nuts, Superhero In My Underwear or Snake being highlights for me. This is a really great band!

Miss Dreadful are horrorpunk/deathrock band from Ohio and I listened and reviewed their latest record for this zine.

To get one thing clear at the start of this review, this is not your basic in your face horrorpunk with lots of ooohs and Misfits/Danzig styled vocals. No. This duo consisting of Miss Dreadful and Johnathan Hatter plays a bit different music. Their music leans more on mystic, atmospheric, horror occult rock and deathrock with some punky elements thrown in here and there and horror lyrics about death, dark fantasies, madness and blood. The seducing siren melodic voice of Miss Dreadful is what takes this music and carries us as listeners to some other dark but nonetheless attractive dimensions. Like, when we are scared of something, but we just can˙t keep our eyes off of it. The music is slower to midtempo with interesting musical solutions in the song structures and nice melodic lines made as leading threads in the songs. For me, favorite songs on this record are Schizophrenic Psychopatic Love, In Her Grave and Taxidermy Boyfriend.

For those who don´t know The 1984 Draft are from Dayton, Ohio and I listened and reviewed their new record for this webzine.

Led by the mastermind songwriter Joe Anderl, these guys combine the sensitivity of pop punk and melodic punkrock with some darker and I dare say romantic undertones in their songs. The album contains 10 excellent songs for contemplating and at the same time enjoying the melodic riffs with beautiful vocal lines. The singing is nice and it suits perfectly into this band˙s opus. As I understood while listening, the lyrics are personal and easy to relate to. If I must compare the band to someone it would be like The Bouncing Souls meeting Morrissey and making an album worth of great songs. As for me, my personal favorite songs on this record are “Miss Ohio”, “Lutheran Heat” and above all “Lisbon Falls”. If you are fan of elaborate and melodic, also intelligent punkrock, check out this records because you won´t be sorry!
