(review) Scumbag – Scumbag Stomp

Well, it’s been time already. Here is brand new debut opus from Scumbag, new band from Varaždin, Croatia, but its members are veterans playing in other bands and projects. Basically, this is DIY crossover, sounding dirty and raw yet energetic with lots of misanthropy in lyrics and apocalyptic and messages with hate to humanity which I stand behind and like hundred percent. Music is just that, old school mix of hardcore and thrash metal, reminding me a lot of S.O.D. in many parts. Vocalist Darac sounds angry and raw, yet you can understand what he is singing hehe, of course if you are into extreme music like we are, so that is another plus. I can hardly wait to check Scumbag live because this album is all about not giving a fuck about anything and that is what this scene lacks nowadays. Great debut.

(review) Scott Free-Whats This World Coming To?(Broken Sound Tapes)

cover

Originally released in 1985.this tape by Scott Free was the tape by first punk band in Myrtle Beach, South California. Broken Sound Tapes are rereleasing this jewel on tape and I must say, all thanks to them because otherwise this underground punk gem would lay forgotten for the new generations of punks and no one would know. We get 11 songs of political hardcore punk. The music is old school hardcore punk in the vein of all Cali punk bands of that time with Circle Jerks and Dead Kennedys coming to mind first. From the straightforward hardcore punk of All In The Family to catch melodic riff of Tuesday In November these guys deliver energy and we can surely say that this record had withstood the test of time. There are also some weirder sounding noisy songs like Bread And Water with that sharp noisy riff guitar main line. One more reggae influenced song is Sleep sounding like a crossbreed between Madness and Black Flag. In all, this is an artifact of time and a testimony to one of the undiscovered jewels of underground hardcore punk scene.

(record review) RYKER´S-The Beginning… (BDHW Records)

RYKERS_COVER_1440

There were couple of last years that were turbulent for these hardcore veterans from Kassel. Line-up change, taking some ugly words spoken from the former fans who were indeed never fans at all, but that only made the band stronger. Hence, this new record contains 15 songs of awesome hardcore punk with metalic influences. Compared to their classic material from the 90-ies this new stuff is a bit more catchy and melodic, but also remaining hardcore with a sharp edge.

There are couple of songs that are bound to become instant classics in my opinion like awesome Let´s Ruin The Scene with great melodic hooks, lyrics and awesome trumpet in the end of the song. Also, Cast In Stone is bound to become a hit in the band´s live setlist for sure. Dead End Street is a hardcore anthem featuring guest performance by none other than Roger Miret. One more guest performance that is awesome is Matt Henderson delivering wicked guitar solo on Collateral Damage. What surprised me the most on this record is the new version of and old hit Cold Lost Sick done in piano/atmospheric way combined with great vocals and it still gives me goosebumps when I listen to this new version. The album is varied, there are no fillers on this album, so that makes it one awesome and strong record.
