(news – punk rock) Versus The World released new single from the forthcoming new album!

‘Roadsick/Roadsick’, the first single from Versus The World‘s new album, is released today. The Californian post-punk band released their last album in 2015. The track ‘Homesick/Roadsick’ is directly linked to the new single:

‘Roadsick/Roadsick is a bridge between the last record and where we’re headed as a band. I’m happy to have shared this moment with Sean, Flip, Tony and Pat during the recording process. Meeting Cameron Webb and having him as our producer only made it better,’ says vocalist Donald Spence, hinting that the album was produced by famed producer Cameron Webb (Motorhead, Sum 41, Megadeath and more).

Versus The World is made up of members of Lagwagon and Good Riddance, among others – musically, however, the band moves outside the ‘norm’ of skate and pop punk and features influences of emo and post.

About Versus The World:
A post-punk unit from Santa Barbara, California featuring members of Lagwagon and Good Riddance, Versus the World issued their eponymous debut album in 2005 on Kung Fu Records. Drawing from their dense pedigree the band blends elements of pop-punk, melodic post-hardcore and troubadour style vocals by founding front man Donald Spence. Versus the World has toured extensively world wide on subsequent releases Drink.Sing.Live.Love(2012) and Homesick/Roadsick(2015) in support of bands such as No Use for a Name, The Ataris, Lagwagon and MxPx. In 2021 the band teamed up with producer Cameron Webb (Motörhead, Megadeth) to make The Bastards Live Forever which is due out in May2023 on SBÄM Records.

(review) NAUT – ‘Hunt’ (Season of Mist)

I knew next to nothing about Bristol, UK’s NAUT. Well, they released their new opus with Season of Mist. What have we here? There are eight songs on this opus. To me, this band sounds like post punk, ethereal, almost spacy guitar passages and vibes, gothic influenced singing reminding me at times of Croatian band called Phantasmagoria and sometimes of Joy Division influenced playing at least this is how I heard it in ‘All The Days’. More straightforward gothic post punk is ‘Gold Death’, one of my personal favorites on this opus, I can almost hear it playing in some gothic club, yet retaining a bit of harshness beneath beautiful keyboard passages that spread throughout the opus, making it richer and more bombastic, so to say. I can not avoid hearing also pop sensitivity in songwriting gentler atmospheric passages, thus colliding them with punk legacy and hitting me as a listener straight to my heart with hits such as ‘8 In 3’ and also ‘Unity Of Opposites’. This is darkened, this is melodic, but also raw punk energy legacy lies underneath it all. Like it a lot.

(review) Tears of a fallen Hero – ‘Save us from ourselves’

Tears of a fallen Hero are proof that Sweden has strong punk rock scene besides great metal bands. With Satanic Surfers, No Fun At All, Millencolin and many other coming to mind, I haven’t listened to Tears of a fallen Hero up to no. These guys are hailing from Gothenburg, home of so many great bands I love, and the idea for band and formation grew in 2017 and this is the band’s debut album out now. This one contains eleven songs of emotional punk with some hardcore and post punk, post hardcore influences. The music is basically melodic punk with excellent vocals which can soar high and low, sounding almost otherworldly and ethereal in many songs. The music is mid tempo with many changes and parts, from slowing down to more uptight punk, guitar lines are great along with synth atmospheric parts especially in ‘Further than i can’, one of the greatest songs on this record in my opinion. Lyrics are personal but smartly written, pure poetry that you can relate to in more than one way. There are also some spacy parts in guitar work, like post punk influenced songwriting and riffing, but remaining enough in punk waters to satisfy your black and red punk rock heart. Songs that I must also mention as being my favorites are ‘My head is my worst enemy’ and ‘Will i ever change’. Conclusion? One more excellent record from Sweden.
