(review) Petrol Station – Tracy e.p.

Petrol Station are hailing from Czech Republic and they just recently released their new, second e.p. called Tracy. There are five songs on this one and music of Petrol Station can be described as modern pop punk. You know how this one sounds, clever mixture of melodic punk rock and pop, with some old school grungy influences here and there and emo/alternative with nice vocal lines, great backing vocal harmonies and superb songwriting, especially the title song which stays in your ears long after you finished listening. Keyboard work and sometimes dreamy electronics and samples only add to sweet and melancholic atmosphere. Songs are emotional and beautiful, like for example another personal favorite of mine called Honesty. This is good one, I wait eagerly for new music, definitely a band to remember.

(review) Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! – Gone Are The Good Days

Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! are back with new full length album! This French band´s new opus contains twelve songs of hardcore rawness mixed with emotion and sensitive melody of pop punk, making one good melodic hardcore record. I love how vocals mix between raw and hardcore shouting with beautiful melodic clean voice and they do it really perfectly. Guitars cut sometimes in metallic way, sometimes more pop punk riff, but retaining that groove and moshing parts for all of you who love your hardcore for moshing and singing along. Lyrics are personal and really good written and anyone can relate to themes. The title song, Marigold and True Colors are in a way personal favorites of mine, if I must choose between all of them, but do not listen to me, go find your own favorite, I think, if you like bands and music like this, you will enjoy Chunk´s new album!

‘Dark Hands, Thunderbolts’ is a return to the rowdy guitars, epic choruses and Americana twang of Crazy Arm’s first two albums. This collection of songs finds the band in a reflective but no less indignant mood. It features the heaviest, the lightest and the most expansive songs that the band have recorded, with a strong cinematic influence at play, betraying their fondness for Ennio Morricone, Murder By Death and Constantines. Of course, their stock-in-trade – breathless punk rock riffola, Appalachian harmonies, syncopated rhythms, anthemic singalongs – are still very present and correct.
