(review) Catapults – I´ll Be Honest (Uncle M Music)

224391

Catapults are coming from Oldenburg, Germany and this is their first album with Uncle M Music. Besides building their guitars from old skate decks these guys play great music. These ten songs offer more slower or mid tempo version of melodic punk rock, just made to keep you smiling on a sunny day and making your day a bit better if your life deals you bitter cards all the time. This is emotional punk rock par excellence. Guitar melodies in well written songs are just fantastic, musicianship is superb, drums and bass are just perfect and vocals are soo sweet, just making goosebumps on your skin. Add to that lyrics from the heart that you can totally relate to, you get just perfect little album which makes you happy that you listened to it and discovered another soon to be one of your favorite new bands. If I must choose some songs for being highlights for me that would be: Newfound Home, Vacancy and Open The Blinds.

(review) Down By Law – LONELY TOWN

Down By Law are back with their brand new studio full length album. I remember when I first heard of these guys as a teenage kid growing up in the nineties. I read the review of their record and their interview in one Italian fanzine which was done by a guy from Croatia who lived in Rome back then, zine was called Zips N Chains. Dave Smalley is a living legend of hardcore punk scene with all his bands he made music with. On this record we get 13 songs like we are used to from DBL, being melodic, heartfelt punk rock done from the hardcore hearts of this punk veterans. Hard to believe, but Dave´s voice is even better now than ever. I love the songs, reminding me of the bands I have listened to a lot when I was younger, and still do. Songs like Lonely Town, Steal The Night and Heroes And Zeroes are personal favorites of mine, but the record as a whole is one feelgood punk record that brings back smile on your face in these still no gigs and festivals uncertain times for our scene. Much respect to Dave and rest of the guys, another memorable fantastic record.

DAYS N DAZE/ANDREW PALEY split 7 inch comes this Friday!

DAYS N DAZE and ANDREW PALEY release split 7″ on March 5

Folk-punk band Days N Daze and singer-songwriter Andrew Paley have teamed up for a split release on Flail Records (USA) and SBÄM Records (Europe).

Andrew Paley’s original is a new wave and 80’s pop influenced track with a driving bass reminiscent of Paley’s band The Static Age. Days N Daze had in turn recorded the track for a covers compilation in their own sound guise. After positive fan feedback, this split 7″ was now created, interpreting punk rock in different ways, but still spiritually united in their DIY spirit.

The 7″ is available in different colors in the stores of Flail Records and SBÄM Records. Both labels had previously put out releases from Days N Daze.
