(review) Yeah Sure – Sasquatch Ain´t Hidden

cover

Yeah Sure are punk band from Kentucky and this is their e.p. which is in fact a concept album about funny thing of getting high with sasquatch, they call themselves cryptid punk.

This e.p. offers 6 songs of dirty, raw, almost rehearsal, garage punk rock, played kinda sloppy and with don´t give a fuck attitude and funny lyrics, but underneath there are enough horror punk influences with some really nice melodies coming out underneath all punk don´t give a fuck song structures. You gotta go with Shark Week, and song titles ordered in concept, check this out: He Is, Just, In A Cabin, In The Woods, Watching, Shark Week. Nice, eh? If you are looking for sloppy cryptid punk with fun and done diy then go support this one.

(review) Toxic Youth – Back To You-Th (WTFRecords & Distro)

cover

Toxic Youth from Milano, Italy have been around since 1990 and after a pause they deliver their new album, returning with might together with WTFRecords & Distro. This label always amazes me how they hit me right between the eyes with their awesome releases delivering punches of Euro hardcore masterpieces to us, old and new kids.

This time, Toxic Youth hits us with 12 songs of perfect hardcore, having some NYHC influenced guitar work and moshing parts, almost metalized and sounding what we called new school in the mid nineties, like Milano Rendez Vous, very heavy song, but they also firmly hold more roots in street punk and hardcore, reminding me a bit of Croatian legends Deafness By Noise. There are lots of gang singing backing vocals, fist pumping in the air old school hardcore fast drumming no holds barred hardcore punk parts, evolving into moshing slower and groove song structures, making songs energetic and powerful. The vocals are angry, hardcore shouting, yet enough melodic to understand what is being sung about. My favorites on this record are Walkin´ Free, The Beast, Do It Again.

Check out this fine record and support your hardcore scene and the cause worldwide!

(review) Cienfuegos/De Carne e Flor -split (no funeral records)

The good people of Canadian label no funeral records continue to release great hardcore and screamo stuff to bring out bands that are jewels deep in the underground and make them closer to hardcore kids.

This time is is a split release of Cienfuegos from Chile and De Carne e Flor from Brazil. Both bands are presented with two songs and Cienfuegos side of the record contains a bit longer songs, bringing up a bit atypical hardcore/screamo with lots of atmospheric parts and clever use of samples which I love when they are used in song structures. I can even hear some post hardcore in guitar work and topped with tortured vocals, music evolving into classic hardcore punk I think they are really something to listen to. The lyrics are in Spanish so, I don´t really understand what they are singing about, but the music speaks for itself.

De Carne e Flor offer shorter songs, yet more polished sound mixture of blast beats, screamo, classic hardcore punk, d beat and melodic hardcore. Yes, that is what I can hear in their songs and I love it. Both songs are sung in Portuguese if I am not mistaken, so I don´t understand the lyrics. For me, this band is a bit more of my favorite, but this is definitely another great release.
