The hit machines of Beyond The Lamplight, born out of the former Americana/Punk band Larry And His Flask, release their new single ‘Hiding In Plain Sight’ today.
‘Hiding in Plain Sight’ was inspired by the time during the Covid Pandemic. Kind of an ode to a time of uncertainty and confusion. We all felt caged and confined, not knowing what the next day would bring. And also to the psychological toll something like that takes on you, and trying to deal with the thoughts and feelings of the quarantine lifestyle. Ultimately, it’s a song about mental health and dealing with problems in a close environment,’ says lead singer Ian.
The Great Awake are from far away across the globe, namely from Sydney, Australia. There are twelve songs on this beautiful record. This band play their vision of melodic punk rock, kind of mixture between old school nineties sound of all those Fat/Epitaph bands that I grew up with and learned to love this music so much, and more mid tempo modern emotional melodic punk not unlike Flatliners or The Menzingers with kind of nervous guitar melody, bass and vocals bordering between singing clean and melodic, but also screaming melodic at times. Songs like ‘A Shitty Midlife Crisis’, ‘Our 20s Have Stopped Roaring’ and ‘Too Stubborn To Quit’ are lyrically and musically totally something that I can relate to in every way, being in the scene for thirty years now. We are speaking here of tight incredible musicianship and great songwriting what makes this record a secret little jewel of the punk rock scene.
There are some things that go together exceptionally well. Peanut butter and jelly. Converse and high socks. Kanye West and Twitter meltdowns. And The Priceduifkes EPs.
Over the years, Belgian punk rock outfit The Priceduifkes has released several EPs, four of which are now available on vinyl together for the first time ever, making this the perfect release to complete your Priceduifkes discography. Featuring 2008’s ‘She Spells Disaster’, 2009’s ‘Retards, Entries & Then Some’, 2010’s ‘Bloody Bloody Kempen’ and 2014’s ‘Why Not’.
With a grand total of 21 songs recorded over a period of 7 years, this compilation sounds surprisingly cohesive. We’ll leave it up to you to decide whether that means these guys were musical geniuses right from the start or that there has barely been any discernible musical evolution over the years. Whatever the case, this compilation is a must-have for any self-respecting fan of The Priceduifkes.

Bio: In 2003, a mutual love for skateboarding and the Ramones brought together 3 sixteen-year-olds, who then decided to get instruments and learn how to play them. A dumb band name was all that’s missing. It’s a problem that was easily fixed when they decided to call themselves The Priceduifkes, ‘flenglish’ for a good race pigeon. The band released a demo and a couple of EPs, played all over Europe and the UK and eventually joined Monster Zero Records, where they released their debut album ‘Can’t Lose’. A second guitar player got added to the band, the boys reinvented themselves and released another EP, followed by their second long-player ‘Goathorse,’ which was released by Rad Girlfriend Records in the US and Monster Zero / Bearded Punk in Europe. By then, they got to check off tours in Northern America and Japan while also playing an incredible amount of weekend gigs closer to home. More recently, the band went through another line up change, making The Priceduifkes a five-piece, still as eager to hit the stage as those teenagers half a lifetime ago.
