(record review) Dry Life-Consumindo Ignorancia

South America has an awesome, vastly undiscovered and big underground hardcore punk scene. Dry Life are coming from Brasil and I listened and reviewed their new record.

cover

The record contains 12 songs and the music these guys play is melodic hardcore. By melodic hardcore I don´t mean here Californian skatepunk style, more of a melodic hardcore with punkrock influences and the songs and melodies made me sad and somber during listening. I know that this should not be the case, but that just happened.  I don´t understand what the guys are singing about, because all the lyrics are in Portuguese language but as I get the titles it is a mix of personal and political lyrics. The vocals are nice, neither shouted nor cheesy, so they fit with the music really, really well. The backing vocals and harmonies are also done like they should be done. For me, the highlights of the album are Sorrisos Perfeitos and Moda.

Nice record, get and listen to this one, the miles should not divide us, because the great music will always connect us!

(news)Sunset Radio are back with the new album “All The Colors Behind You”

7c7cc305-ff1c-4e64-9d2b-b97b7ba65f06

Sunset Radio’s second album, “All The Colors Behind You”, will be released on October 15th via This is Core and Far Channel Records, and it’s a very ambicious one. “The whole album is a step forward from our last record ‘Vices’. We were influenced by pop-punk bands like State Champs, Neck Deep, Real Friends, as well as hardcore punk legends like No Use For A Name. Our goal on the new record was to blend this two worlds in one” says guitarist Matteo Rossi. After an year and half spent touring between Italy, Europe, Japan and Russia promoting “Vices”, the band returned home and started writing songs for what would become the framework for “All The Colors Behind You”. During This period the band experienced some line-up changes, introducing new guitarist Riccardo Tasselli and new bassist Alberto Felice along with founding members Matteo Rossi, Davide Pazzaglia e Andrea Neri. A new video taken from the first single “My Everything” will be available on September 26th. Watch the trailer here.

“All The Colors Behind You” was recorded at Studio 73 by Riccardo Pasini, who also recorded the first album “Vices”“During the writing process we collaborated with Fabrizio Pan from Melody Fall, that helped us finding the sound we were looking for. We’ve had around 15 songs in work, from which we selected 11 for the final tracklist. The title ‘All The Colors Behind You’ wants to express the feeling that people wear Masks in their lives, so is not easy to see their true colors and really know them” said the band “The record and the lyrics also have a lot to do with love, and the way It affectes our lives and our Daily routines”.

(record review)Teeth Cutter-Demo

I already said in a couple of features of this zine that I consider the underground scene to be a living, breathing thing, constantly shifting, in motion and evolving this way or that.

It constantly throws out on it´s shores new bands, new awesome people, activists, labels and promoters. This time I listened and reviewed Teeth Cutter demo for our zine.

This trio hails from Newbugrh, NY and they play punkrock mixed with some hardcore influences, but this is all punk music. Their demo contains 4 songs and it´s recorded in basement, I think in their rehearsal room but no matter, the songs are awesome and I loved every minute of this demo. For me the best song on the demo is No Room to Breathe and I heard some d-beat in there but I am not sure, maybe it is only me. Given Guilt reminds me a lot of old school punk bands from the 80-ies like Black Flag and Circle Jerks springing to mind almost instantly. The guys put out their demo on Bandcamp for free or for name your price, so go get their demo, and if you download it, write them a line or two, I am sure they´ll appreciate it a lot.
