Finnish turborock band Grillijono K.O. released their third single ‘Marinaadien hautaan’  from their upcoming debut album ‘Napalmia korville’ which is released on March 26th 2021 by Secret Entertainment & Inverse Records.

”Marinaadien Hautaan” is one of the oldest Grillijono tracks on the upcoming album ”Napalmia Korville”. “In Finland we have this thing called ”being marinated” which basically means being seriously drunk, a very common habit/phenomenon here in the north throughout the year. So, the song tells about the consequenses of being marinated – what it’s like to end a drinking-bout. It’s a mid tempo rocker with some bluesy nuances and has kept it’s place in our setlist from the very beginning”, Lobo-Tommi explains.

Grillijono K.O. is a four-piece turborock group from Vaasa, Finland. Their sound is a combination of different elements from fast punk rock to black metal and even melodic pop, defined by harsh and powerful vocals by frontman Lobo-Tommi.

The bands first publication, “Nyrkkipyykki EP”, was released in December 2015. The single “Ei oo sun oma vika että oot niin vitun tyhmä” became a small-scale punk rock hit and was noted by Soundi, the biggest music publication in Finland. The song has reached 450000 hits on Spotify alone and rose to the “Finland Viral 50” playlist.

Nyrkkipyykki EP was soon followed by single “Kaljaa pimeässä”, which expanded their sound to a more aggressive and darker territory. Bands such as Kvelertak, The Hellacopters, Gluecifer and Slayer have all had an impact on Grillijono K.O.’s sound as it is today.

Despite the band being only a few years old, they´ve at played at various venues all over Finland, and have gained a reputation as an energetic live band. The band is currently finalizing their debut album, which will be released in early 2021.

(review) Scott Sellers – Reality e.p.

cover

Scott Sellers is one of the most prolific musicians in punk rock scene right now, delivering new music very often and it is fascinating how he manages to make every of his releases sound awesome. This time there are five songs on this e.p. What to expect here? If you didn´t hear Scott´s music yet, it is melodic skate punk with many influences from those nice epic old school melodic punk records that I grew up on in the nineties when I was a teenage kid. The melodic guitar work is nice, enough technical to appeal to kids who love their skate punk more technical and prog, yet remaining with both feet in the old school considering the songwriting. Vocals are superb, backing vocal harmonies too. Songs are mainly fast, yet there is one slower called From the Wild which is one of my favorites on this record having soo sweet melody and chorus. Back to Reality is also one of my favorites, being so uplifting and having lyrics I can really relate to in my personal life. So, if you are a fan of Scott´s work, you will love this one, if you wasn´t before, you will be now.

(review) Burning Nickels – Cobwebs e.p. (High End Denim Records)

Cobwebs Cover Art

Canadian punkrockers Burning Nickels are releasing their brand new e.p. with High End Denim Records. I must admit that I have never listened to this band prior to this release, but now I am happy that I discovered another great band for my listening pleasure. This e.p. contains four songs, first Bootstraps which features guest performance by Sam Russo this song has such beautiful dual vocal harmonies that are so sweet topped with awesome main song melody and energetic drumming and fast parts, that make this one epic listening. The music of Burning Nickels is melodic punk, bordering somewhere between faster skate punk and nineties melodic punk that I love so much. The title song was released prior to this record, it features guest performance by Dannyboy from The Corps and it is my personal favorite with such strong goosebump making melody and superbly written. Sentiment features guest performance by Alex from Debt Neglector and is another testament why I love melodic punk so much and why it is is one of the best things on this planet besides chocolate pudding. This one also features clever use of samples and I love when bands do that. Summer Boner is more of a pop punk song, being easy, full of uplifting yet somehow melancholic vibe and this is a great little e.p. I can´t wait for the full length to come out.
