Love Equals Death ARE BACK releasING Split 7″ with The Static Age!

Cover_tsa_led

California punk band and Fat Wreck alumni Love Equals Death release their first record after a 14 years long hiatus. They join Post-Punk band The Static Age (fronted by singer /songwriter Andrew Paley) for a split 7″ co-release between Say-10 Records (USA) and SBÄM (EU). Both bands previously toured with AFI, Tiger Army, The Explosion and The Street Dogs and planned a tour across the US and Canada together that felt through due to the corona pandemic.

Love Equals Death last release was Nightmerica on Fat Wreck in 2006, The Static Age released an EP called Mercies on Uncle M / Riptide Recordings in 2012.

This is how the bands describe the songs:

“Flight Of The Banshee was from an experience I had while on Tour that took place at an old Texas campground that was said to have been the burial ground for victims of the Mexican Cartel. We were really tired of driving so we pulled over there at about 3 am and instantly started to see, hear, and feel what we could only conclude to be, a Banshee spirit experience.

Dust is a very personal experience that I had that lasted about four years that had me at odds with myself. Some days I would be strong and others I would almost feel a sense of depression and I felt that there was nothing left to do but rot in isolation, so I started writing my thoughts out and it was the world around me that had me bummed, so I realized that I couldn’t change the world but I could get myself out of the situation that I was in and now I kind of chuckle at the lyrics, “until I turn to dust”, because I found away to remove myself from the downward spiral. It’s vague, but as I stated before, it’s very personal. I hope this helps. If you need more detail, please let me know. Thank you guys!”  – Love Equals Death

“The first song, “Recover,” was revived from a spate of recordings from 2016. We’d played versions of the song on tours as early as 2014, but this version was actually recorded during Andrew’s own process of recovery following an accident. We ended up liking the demo vocals so much we kept the originals and built the song around them. The other song, “The Fan and the Bellows” is a cover of the seminal post-punk band The Chameleons.”  – The Static Age

Elm Tree Circle - NO FOMO

Remember Elm Tree Circle? We already featured this band from Germany on the pages of this zine.  Well they released new album with Krod Records and it was about time that I have a listen and try to write a review for this zine.

This new album contains 10 songs and the music style is in the same vein as before, being a fine mixture of emotional pop punk/punk rock with some indie and even a bit noise influences in the songwriting. The lyrics are poetic and personal and the music speaks for itself. What? Nice melodies, harmonies and not annoying vocals. The singer can ruin everything in this kind of punk rock, when the vocals are too crying and too gnarly, but here the singer sounds emotional, but not too cheesy, so it is another point for this band. So, if you are a fan of such music go get this one. My personal favorites: All About You, Settle In, Walking on Doom.

(review) launch control-attention economy e.p.

Launch Control are coming from UK, Reading to be more exact and this is their brand new e.p. containing five songs.  The music of this band could be categorized as melodic punkrock with some pop punk influences, but with sociopolitical lyrics and sensitivity, bringing back to punkrock something incredibly missed in the last couple of years. These five songs are really fine fitting perfectly to the mood of the e.p. The themes are bigotry(Zombigots/Cult of Ignorance), religion(Marketing for Martyrs-my favorite on this record), economy and internet(Attention Economy-also my favorite song on the record) to political greed(Paper Tiger), the songs are cleverly written and I love how the smart use of the synth in some songs epmhasizes the overall almost etherial yet harsh vibe with nice vocals adding to the momentum. This is a real nice little e.p. and I can`t wait for the full length to arrive.
