Austin’s own Big Loser choose not to stand on the sidelines. After the tragic death of George Floyd and the on going displays of police brutality, Big Loser wanted to give back to their community. The band penned a song titled “Ruby Red” and all money from the single will be donated to The Austin Justice Coalition. “In the wake of George Floyd’s death, it became apparent in vividly horrible colors the amount of systemic racism that has been and still is in place in America. Countless black stories were shared via social media along with raw footage of police brutality. Just recently a video was released of an unarmed black man, Jacob Blake, being shot in the back by police in front of his kids. It’s still happening. It’s difficult to not be emotionally affected by all of it, and that’s why we wrote “ruby red,” in hopes to release it and raise some money for a righteous cause. The Austin Justice Coalition is a racial justice group that educates and builds community power for people of color who live in Austin, Texas, that need support, community, and liberation during a time of systemic injustice in America. The issues in America run deep and wide, but we chose to team up with AJC because we believe the fight for justice starts locally and they’re a great organization helping those in need right now.” – Chase D. Big Loser is an American rock band formed by frontman Chase D. Spruiell. Pairing hard hitting lyrics with glistening song arrangements the band has quickly earned a seal of approval in the underground scene. Love You, Barely Living is their Black Numbers debut and everything about it is big. Haunting guitars, roomy drums, and epic sing-along’s set the tone for Chase and the rest of Big Loser to showcase their songwriting skills. Chaser are back! After their last record Sound The Sirens which was for me one of the best melodic punk albums in 2018. they are releasing their e.p. with two brand new songs called Look Alive and Found Myself Again.
As we are used from Chaser, they combine excellent musicianship with fantastic melodic voice, courtesy of singer Mike LeDonne and guitars of Bill Hockmuth(formerly of another great band Castoff), with pumping bass of Jesse Stopnitzky and superb drums of Davey Guy. The lyrics are cool, because they are personal and inspiring to drive forward and never surrender, but also through the lines you have to see the political situation too. Although both songs are superb, I somehow love the title song more, with Found Myself Again being more harsh in verse, transforming into awesome anthemic chorus just made for singing along like only Chaser can make. I cant wait to see these guys on tour in Europe again and witness old and new material because this band means so much to me.
