(review) Krav Boca – Barrikade

Cover_Barrikade LP Recto

Krav Boca are no strangers to this zine having already reviewed their last record. This band is special, having members from different countries like France, Greece and Morocco. Their music is also special, with three singers, 1 performer and four musicians incorporating mandolin, guitars, drums, playing harsh punk with hardcore and hip hop influences sounding really aggressive, streetwise and yet at the same time mandolin gives some kind of melancholic vibe to many song parts, at least to me, makes me also kinda sad sometimes. But, no matter, songs are really energetic and great listening sounding even better than the last record. These 13 songs, one being intro are superb, my highlights is aggressive Brasero, but Barrikade Ft.Sara is my personal favorite of all the songs on this record. Cleverly incorporated rap, metal, punk and hardcore sounds really fresh and good when you know how to write great songs, these guys really know that. This band is also known for their diy ethics and relentless touring and playing gigs which was unfortunately not possible in last year or so, due to known circumstances. But, this music and anger and sadness, fighting spirit, all is incorporated in this new record. So, go check out this one. It really is something great.

COVER RECTO

This is an interesting band. Krav Boca are French-Greek-Moroccan group made of 8 people, meaning 3 singers, 1 performer and 4 musicians. These guys did more than 300 concerts diy touring Europe and are releasing their brand new record. This one contains intro plus eight songs. After pretty harsh and almost metalised intro, Souterrain shows the street side of the band, with music being combination of punk, metal, rap and folk elements meaning mandoline incorporated cleverly in the song arrangements. The lyrics are in French, since I don´t speak that one, I can´t really understand what is being sung about, but it sounds great nonetheless. Three vocals fulfill themselves perfectly creating and bursting with energy. I expected some ethno folk punkrock, but I got hardcore rap with metal and punk elements, not unlike Moscow Death Brigade. The songs that I recommend as highlights of this album are Crust Riot, Gas Mask and the title song. Check this one, it is interesting.

Cutthroat-Reflekt(Demons Run Amok)

COVER

Cutthroat from Los Angeles are back with their new record out with Demons Run Amok. Relentless touring and hard work are getting to our ears because these 5 songs on this record are just fantastic. First that fell on my mind when the record started is old school Biohazard. But, then I heard all those things we loved in the 90-ies hardcore as kids, that being harsh vocals, rap parts, metalic and streetpunk guitar riffs and good lyrics you can relate to. Cutthroat deliver so energetic and at the same time electrified record that my hair stood and I got goosebumps because I felt like I returned through time, yet at the same time this is hardcore for modern kids and 21st century. I love Rat and also Never Settle, those two being my favorites on this record although all five of the songs were on repeat for long time. I can´t wait for the full length and to catch these guys play live somewhere, with songs like these this one is a keeper!
