Elvis Jackson are legendary punk ska band from Slovenia and they are celebrating their 20th birthday with gigs all around. This time they played in Brežice, Slovenia and our own Irina was there to see the celebration first hand.

The support for this gig were Viperstone, rock band from Slovenia, who did a fine job warming up the cheerful crowd with their material.

Then, the time came for birthday boys to step on the stage and start their celebrate birthday set. This gigs are special because Elvis Jackson plays regular set and also acoustic set during their time on stage. They played hits from all parts of their existence and some rarities, couple of songs regular, then couple acoustic songs and drummer Soršak walked his way from one drum set to the other. Brass section was also present on stage to perform in already great songs. Every time I have seen them they finished their set with a capela Smokin Ganja song like their trademark. This time, for the first time, they came back on stage and did two more songs as an encore. All of the usual trademarks of their shows were also here like rubber boat, confetti, toilet paper rolls thrown from the stage….Great band, great show, we wish Elvis Jackson, at least 20 years more!

(record review)MAD CADDIES-“Punk Rocksteady”(Fat Wreck Chords)

Mad Caddies dropped their new album out on Fat Wreck Chords just in time for all those summer shows and festivals following and I am definitely gonna see them live soon in a month and a half and it is going to be awesome. In the meantime I listened and reviewed their new record for this webzine.

As you might have heard this is the album filled with covers of the bands that influenced Mad Caddies and which somehow had an effect on them as a band and as people. But, it is done in Mad Caddies way, meaning reggae and ska mixed with punkrock. As it usually goes, some songs are better, some are not so good, it depends on the listener´s personal point of view. In my opinion the best songs for me on this record are “She´s Gone(NOFX)” being a haunting reggae version of the original and featuring excellent back vocals by Aimee of The Interrupters, then “AM(Tony Sly)”, because it really resembles the original meaning of the song and adds to it the new vibe  and “Some Kind of Hate(Misfits) having a 50´s vibe that is what makes the original so special but also adding the new originality to the song. Also “Alien 8(Lagwagon)” is nice too. Those are my four favourites and that doesn´t mean that the other songs sre not good. Check it out because this is not the simple covers album, it is much more because Mad Caddies added a lot of originality to these songs and I love this album for that.

(record review)AUTHORITY ZERO-“Rythm and Booze III”

If you read this webzine and are a fan of melodic punk hardcore with some reggae thrown in for good measure you know AUTHORITY ZERO. I saw this band live for the first time in Slovenia at Punk Rock Holiday 1.6 two years ago and was blown by their music and energy! The guys released their new album “Broadcasting to the Nations” on the mighty Bird Attack Records in 2016.which was reviewed in this webzine and dubbed one of the best punk albums that year! This time the guys did something different with their new album and I listened and reviewed it for this webzine, so check this out!

The new album is in fact a live album with the music of Authority Zero played in acoustic, unplugged way! This is the band´s third live album and first they self released! The album contains 14 songs and it was awesome to hear those songs done arranged in a bit different way than you can hear on their records! Although this is an acoustic album you can feel the energy deriving from their live show, the energy I felt for the first time when I saw them live two years ago and that energy made me fall in love with this band. Many bands do live acoustic albums only to fullfill their contracts with the label or to make some extra money but that is not the case with Authority Zero. Get this awesome album and check it out!
