(movie) 1945(2017.) is a nice piece of Hungarian cinema and vast richness of European movies.

20170113moziplakat-az-1945-cimu-filmhezHungarian cinema is maybe small compared to some other countries, but they make great movies. 1945(2017.) is one of them. WWII has ended in Europe and Soviets have taken over Hungary making it communist marionette state like all others behind the iron curtain. Our movie is set into picturesque little village, on the outside, everything is fine and the village mayor, also store owner prepares to marry his son to a girl. But, all that is spoiled when two Jews arrive by train with some wooden cases and doubts, guilt and evil come to the surface. This movie is shot in black and white technique which adds to the somehow bleak atmosphere of Hungarian vast flat country and fields with excellent photography. The story evolves around guilt, consciousness, betrayal of best friends, antisemitism which is on the rise in nowadays Hungary which becomes more and more a one man dictatorship under Orban. This is not a political movie, but has some connotations which can we as viewers relate to nowadays current state of politics. The music is fantastic, all that dark ambient droning mixed with traditional Hungarian instruments and the story is well written, ending is poetic and cool, also the cast is great, the actors are really chosen wisely. I recommend this one to all of you who watch something other than current blockbusters.

(review) Lovecraft-Dark Ages(PCT Musique)

PCT Musique, a label from Montreal, Canada always surprises me with their great releases. How do they find all those excellent bands?

This time, it is Lovecraft from south west of France, formed in 2017. How not to listen to punk band which carries the name of my favorite horror writer and one of my all time favorites for reading? I expected something melodic, yet dark and I got it. There is kinda mistic feeling in the music of these guys. This record offers ten songs of melodic punkrock, with English speaking lyrics, at times noisy, at times poppy and at times very, very atmospheric. I love Last Day Of My Youth, showing straightforward punkrock, and then turning into something darker with that wicked and catchy guitar melody of the title track which is absolutely one of my highlights of this record. There are no lyrics enclosed but as I understand, they are personal and inspired by the nineties, nature, love and similar themes. Sometimes the songs of this album make me sad, but that is okay. This is a very strong debut album.

(book) Scott Ian:I´m The Man

Scott Ian is known in the metal scene as legendary guitarist of legendary Anthrax from New York, one of the big 4 thrash metal bands besides Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth. Somehow, during my years of growing up, Anthrax always went under my radar, being somehow left beside and I have been listening to much more Metallica, Slayer especially and Megadeth. So, I was very interested to read partly co written autobiography, with Jon Wiederhorn as co-writer, who also did a recent book by Roger Miret from Agnostic Front as co-writer. Foreworded by Kirk Hammett from Metallica, this one is an interesting read, cover to cover. From Scott growing up as tiny Jewish boy in New York to all the peaks, heartbreaks and downs with Anthrax. parting ways with Joey Beladonna, John Bush, reunions, but what makes this book more interesting are all the anecdotes that Scott shared, legendary Billy Milano(S.O.D.) stuff, fine with late Dimebag of Pantera, some really gruesome stuff from tours, sex, drinking and above all love for extreme music that kept us all in the scene for so many years. This one is a keeper. Great read.
