(featured band) ANOREXIA ISAN – A deep look into the other side of the coin

ANOREXIA ISAN, the Venezuelan rock band formed by John Bustamante, Ricardo Aumaitre, Marcial Robaina and Jean Luis Rojas, keep themselves releasing material with a common taste: social explicit themes.

Since the release of their most recent LP THE SAD ALBUM, which is a trip through manic depression looking for redemption (which features LINDSAY MCDOUGALL from the Australian punk band FRENZAL RHOMB, and EUGE VALOVIRTA from the metal band CYHRA from Sweden), their recent deal with the indie record label NEPTUNE CROSS PUBLISHING in Washington D.C., and their announcement regarding an upcoming new EP which will be titled RECYBELIA, the band have been sharing material with a common point: videos which cover polemic themes of a global society, with a rock, punk, metal and post-hardcore soundtrack.

While the video for their song A MORNING OVERTURE goes through something which looks like the daily basis of a girl with suicidal thoughts, their most recent video entitled WORDS tries to be a reminder of the Columbine Shootings.

The Columbine shooting (April the 20th, 1999) was, at the time, the worst high school shooting in U.S. history and prompted a national debate on gun control and school safety, as well as a major investigation to determine what motivated the gunmen, Eric Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17. Future school shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, continue to raise questions about gun control in the United States.

Both works look to be connected in a specific thing: clinic depression and mental health issues. So it seems to be easy to watch them as a call to think about it.

According to their singer and songwriter, John Bustamante, “It is well known for all of us that it is not easy to talk about things like these ones, because it could be really offensive for some people. But is really necessary to make the first attempt and take the first strike. To remain in silence in front of things like these ones, make us partners for possible tragedies. We could avoid a lot of bad stuff just by giving them a voice”.

While we wait for the songs which will be featured on their new EP, RECYBELIA, we invite you to watch both videos, and make your own thoughts about them.

(review) Danzig-Danzig sings Elvis(Cleopatra Records)

Front

This was long time in the making and it is finally here! Glenn Danzig, my musical hero and inspiration, one of the heroes of my childhood, through Misfits, Samhain and his solo career, recorded an album with cover versions of the songs by king himself, Elvis Presley. The king of darkness covering King Elvis, hero of Danzig`s childhood. Although many have tried to clone and copy him, especially in horrorpunk scene, there is only one voice, Danzig and his trademark beautiful vocal. These 14 songs are beautiful renditions of Presley songs. I am not a fan of Elvis, so I do not know whether some of these songs are hits or no, but I know that Fever, Always on my mind, Loving arms and Like a baby are my personal favorites on this record. This is a nice one, like a classic prequel to 2015. album Skeletons hehe. Pay tribute to both kings!

Livingston are Through the Peephole!

Formed in the multi-cultural hub of London, LIVINGSTON are Beukes Willemse and guitarist / keyboardist Chris van Niekerk from South Africa, drummer Jan Siekmann from Germany and bassist Phil Magee from the UK.
Finding their feet with 2009’s debut “Sign Language” and 2012’s “Fire To Fire” (Universal Music Germany), the band achieved numerous successes including Top 20 in the German Sales Charts and Number 1 on the Amazon & iTunes Rock Charts as well as iTunes Newcomer Album of the Year 2010. Their single “Broken” went to Top 20 and their second single “Go” was the official song for German national broadcaster ZDF during the Winter Olympics of 2010. Their music has also been featured in numerous TV shows. Their single “Human” reached N°4 of the European Charts.
While waiting for their new record “This is a Robbery” to be out, LIVINGSTON are revealing a new song, titled “Through the Peephole”. On this new song, Chris (guitar / keyboards) comments:
Through the Peephole, like its sibling, our previous single “Show Me the Money”, is also a bit of a mutant that has come a long way before reaching maturity. It also started its life as a vocal idea that our singer Beukes had written on a kind of a Hip Hop beat. It was around about the same time as a few members in the band were really experimenting with other styles of music in our own time.
And when I mean “other” styles, I mean different from what we as a band considered to be the Livingston style. Beukes would once in a while send me one of his ideas so I can mess around with it and see what comes out, and with this particular idea, same as “Show Me the Money”, it immediately jumped out at me.
But as time went on neither me nor Beukes fully realised the song or brought it to its full potential. I had made one or two versions that I liked, but it wasn’t until one summer when my girlfriend, a couple of close friends and myself were driving to Eilat in southern Israel and we listened to one of those versions in the car, that I fully envisioned what I want to do with the music. The vocal line to me is very playful and kind of loopy-sounding, you know, loopy like circus or carnival music so I really wanted to create a sound scape that compliments this feeling.
I kept the idea in the back of my mind for quite a while after and finally when we had finished all the other tracks on the album, late at night on a whim, I put together all the music and surprised the guys with it a few days later when it was done. It is the last track that snuck in on the album and I think it’s a really unique gem. Now if you’re wondering what “Through the Peephole” is about, then the best way to find out is to take a drive / walk / whatever… and listen to it loud.
