(book) Ivica Čuljak – ‘Zvali su me Satan Panonski’

(book) Mortiis – Secrets of my kingdom: Return to dimensions unknown

Dayal Patterson and his crew at Cult Never Dies are responsible for re-release of this expanded and renewed version of the book by dungeon synth/dark ambient godfather Mortiis. This interesting creature from Norway has his roots in black metal scene having played bass for Emperor in their early and decisive days of demos which later brought them to legends they are. Then he decided to go his own way and start his one man alter ego Mortiis which is so much more than mere music and project and this hard cover rich book is a best proof for that. This book contains rich illustrated poems and texts by Mortiis which explain his Era I as it is called, meaning his first opuses and later era with more songs and albums with vocals on, and less dungeon synth/dark ambient as in earlier opus. Illustrations are superb, courtesy of Mark Riddick, Juha Vuorma, David Thiérrée. Besides texts and poems, this book contains unreleased drawings and interviews with Mortiis(interviewed by Dayal himself, very interesting and extensive), interviews with all the illustrators, Proscriptor, Balrog, Forgotten Kingdoms, Chaucerian Myth and more. This is worth having and reading, I will get back to it every once in a while and read some parts again. Great release indeed.

(book) Rob Halford : Confess – The autobiography

Rob Halford is known to everyone as the singer of legendary metal band Judas Priest, where he still sings at 72 years old and the band celebrated fifty years in the scene so much respect and hats off to Rob and the crew for being there so long despite all the hardships, ups and downs and line-up changes. This book is one of the best books that I have read so far this year. This is Rob´s autobiography, from his childhood beginnings at Black Country, as they call the part of the UK from where he is from, to his beginnings with Judas Priest, glory and legendary albums and tours, to his exit from the band, outing as gay, projects after Judas, re-entering the band till these days and still being Metal God as they call him in the scene. What I love about this book that Rob tells his story with autoirony and humor, also there are lots of anecdotes from gigs and tours and cool stories. Other thing that breaks heart is Rob´s almost life long struggle to hide his sexuality being gay in the homophobe scene and coming out and shining on. Through tragedy, loss, sadness we become better people if we survive the hardships, this is something that I as a person still believe. This book and Rob Halford´s story teaches us just that. I recommend this book heartily.
