(review) Late Show – ‘Late Show’

Late Show are hailing from Seattle and this is their new EP containing four songs. The music of Late Show can be described as a kind of mixture between noisy and raw garage punk rock with more melodic punk. ‘Cold Beer, White Pills’ is your typical raw garage punk song with some grungy influences in couple of song parts, especially in guitar riffing. ‘Pizza, Beaches & Weed’ is what I said above, keeping raw garage punk touch but also having more melodic vocal lines and sing along chorus so stupid that you catch yourself singing along to it. ‘Watchin’ You’ has more dirty rock ‘n roll overtones and I would love so much if that guitar was a bit more distorted and having more explosive and buzzing sound than that. This record earns more to seventies punk rock than more contemporary punk that is being played. ‘College Education’ is the weirdest song on the record and at times reminded me of Fugazi and similar bands, but maybe it is only me. This EP was somehow not my cup of tea, so to say, with me being fan of more melodic and faster stuff.

(review)Sicko-In the alternate timeline(Red Scare Industries)

cover

Remember Seattle˙s Sicko? These guys played an important role in the 90-ies pop punk when pop punk was more punk and less pop, contrary to nowadays. Well, Red Scare Industries released nice compilation of their biggest hits from all era of the band. 19 songs of furious tempo pop punk/melodic punkrock are here for your listening pleasure. I must admit that I never listened to Sicko close when I was a kid in the 90ies but now this records suits me as well as thousands other fans to rediscover this band and their opus again. The hits like Where I Live, Believe, Kathy`s Dance and all the other are sure to win over and re-ignite your old punkrock heart like it is twenty something years ago hehe. Great record!

(record review)The Drowns-View From The Bottom(Live From The Rock Room/Bypolar Records/1984 Records/Gunner Records)

The Drowns are relatively new band, but the members have 40+ years of scene experience when you combine them. Featuring the members of Success, Shell Corporation, Time Again, and Madcap, these band knows what to do from the start on.

The record contains 10 songs of tight melodic punkrock. Song structures are midpaced, this is not skatepunk although there are a couple of excursions into faster territories like for example in Boston Accent. What I love about this record and this music is that it has soul, I can almost feel the emotions behind the harsh but melodic singing and the tight musicianship. The other songs that are somehow the higlight of this record for me are Eternal Debate for which the video was made and View From The Bottom. I guess the meaning of this record was to somehow convey those emotions behind the music to the listener and the guys managed to do just that! Awesome record!
