(review) Causam – Doomsday Rapture

cover

Causam are hailing from Switzerland and this is their first full length album. This record contains eight songs, one being intro. Music of Causam can be described as fast yet melodic black metal. Their music creates atmosphere of aggression, sorrow, despair, yet at the same time melancholy with excellent melodies and guitar work. Drumming is mainly blast beats, yet turning at times into beautiful atmospheric passages just reminding me why I love black metal so much, being best music for expressing all of your emotions. My personal favorites are Beauty of Decay and Eternal, although all of the songs are just excellent. Vocals are black metal screeching but being perfect and fitting fantastic to the song structures. The lyrical themes are more deep and personal than in your face Satanic verses and the mixture of epic music and great lyrics make this one of the best black metal records that came out this year until now.

(review) Calarook – Surrender Or Die

cover

Calarook are hailing from Switzerland and this is their debut full length album. When I listened to the intro on the album I thought to myself, oh no, not another Alestorm clone playing boring folk metal called pirate metal. But, fortunately I was wrong. This is more on melodic death metal side of things with growling vocals, epic guitar catchy riffs and perfect balance between aggressive fast parts and more melodic side of things. I must say that violin does a great job here, especially that fantastic violin solo in Kraken´s Chest, one of my absolute favorites on this record. This album sounds like a crosbreed of Amon Amarth, Skyclad, Running Wild and Edge of Sanity combined into one superb whole musical journey. The songs are hilarious, you just can´t go wrong with Quest For Booze or Invisible Pineapples., especially Paul the Parrot hehe. This is fine debut record, I would love to see and hear this band live somewhere, I am sure they make one hell of a party.

(review) HATEFUL MONDAY-Mermaiding Over Geneva(Live)

cover

Hateful Monday are no strangers to this zine, we already reviewed their record a while ago. This time, they decided to hit us with their live record. This one was recorded live in their hometown, Geneva, Switzerland, when Hateful Monday opened for Nofx in the Summer of 2019. I am sure that was a dream come true for the guys in the band, so this one was recorded to document that evening. After fantastic Bridge on river Kwai intro, we are in for 8 songs of beautiful melodic punk or should I say skatepunk. This live record was not polished and not mixed and rerecorded like some bands do. All the mistakes, all the rawness, emotion and energy of punkrock show can be felt on the record. The music is fantastic with songs like Dorian Gray Syndrome, Somebody and Carry Me Home being my personal favorites. So, go check this one out. Nice band indeed!
