(review) Crownshard – ‘Awareness’

Italian extreme metal scene is vast and fantastic and I am always glad when I discover some new bands and projects from our neighboring country. Crownshard are hailing from Italy, and this is their new opus containing five songs. The music of Crownshard can be described as death metal, it is technically fantastic and tight, but there is more to their music than just that. Lyrically, Crownshard deal with real themes, like depression, death and perdition, raising awareness about ourselves and thus enabling us to fight our inner demons when we need to fight to survive and stay alive in this ever moving today’s world. Besides pummeling death metal with many tempo changes and grooves mixed with blast beats, there are also couple of really fine melodies played with thrash metal and classic heavy metal influence here and there, bordering the music of this band with melodeath. Vocals are growls but quickly changing between screams and more snarling anger and despair, not your usual death metal grunts. My personal favorites are ‘There Is Nothing Left’ and ‘Mankind Has Failed’, but all of the songs are quality death metal played with conviction.

(new video) Finnish Folk Black Metal Horde KOUTA Releases Official Video for ‘Sukujyrkkämä’!

The Finnish folk black metal horde KOUTA has unleashed a new video for the song ‘Sukujyrkkämä’. The song is taken from the new album ‘Kaarnaköydet‘ – first band’s full-length – set to be released on April 21.

Bassist Arttu Pentikäinen stated about the video:

Shooting the video for Sukujyrkkämä in our national landscapes was rewarding. I think visual aid feeds the music strongly and therefore shapes the listening experience. It’s inspiring to see other creative people working on a story based on your own music through the art of cinema. I look forward to hearing listeners’ feedback on the album!

The new album ‘Kaarnaköydet‘ weaves a dark and intricate web of sound that is both familiar and refreshingly new. Folk elements have permeated the new sound much more deeply, while the production has become much more clear, powerful, and straight. At the heart of ‘Kaarnaköydet’ lies a gripping narrative centered around the tragic story of two brothers. Through their music, KOUTA explores the complex and often tumultuous emotions of shame, guilt, and catharsis, inviting the listener to join them on a powerful and emotional journey of aesthetically peripheral discovery.

The drum parts of ‘Kaarnaköydet‘ were recorded in a remote cabin in Lapland. Guitars and bass recorded at Pekka Posio’s studio in Helsinki. Vocals, choirs and all other instruments together with the live recording of ‘Äitimaan Laulu’ recorded at Sonic Pump Studios, Helsinki. Mixed by Pekka Posio and mastered by Svante Forsbäck.

(news – new video) Austria’s black metal horde ASPHAGOR releases the video of ‘Pyrogenesis’!

Austria’s Black Metal Horde ASPHAGOR Releases the Video of ‘Pyrogenesis’!

‘Pyrogenesis’, the fourth album by the Tyrolean black metallers ASPHAGOR, has been in the stores since the 10th of March. The 11 songs are probably the highlight of the quintet’s work so far. Now the band has released a new video for the album’s title track and comments this as follows:

M. Zanesco: ‘Pyrogenesis’ is a song that centers around the idea that great power and enlightenment can arise from a spark of inspiration born from flame. The lyrics describe the journey towards this power and the potential consequences that come with it, emphasizing the destructive potential of this force while acknowledging its transformative and creative capabilities.”

Hybreos: ‘As an ode to Prometheus, we tried to create an amalgamation of Old School Death Metal with our home base of Black Metal, with a thrashy connotation. Like every track on the album this one as well has its unique approach, guiding through densely packed arrangements toward the final conclusion in a harmonic riffage. Enjoy!

The album is available on CD, as a double LP in gatefold and as a limited DigiPak in a limited BoxSet. In May you will have the chance to see the band together with The Spirit on the Dark Fortress Farewell Tour, see the dates below!
