Here we are, album number twelve of Arch Enemy. I will say a blasphemy now in the eyes of many fans, but for me personally, last three albums are the best that this band made in their career. That are the three albums with Alissa White-Gluz on vocals. Her arrival brought new energy to the band, new versatility in vocals and melodies, also new aggression and brutality. Not to sad Angela Gossow was bad, quite opposite, but I love the last three records. This one offers 11 songs and I am at hardship to choose which one I like more. It took listening for like three times to decide, so I will do it like that: Handshake With Hell-awesome straightforward aggressive death thrash anthem with superb clean vocal middle parts, courtesy of little demon Alissa. In The Eye Of The Storm kicks ass with mid tempo, heavy song which adds to epic anthemic chorus and great lyrics. Poisoned Arrow-the song with contagious and such wicked little guitar melody that it stays in your ears to hum all day. There is also one short but epic instrumental called Mourning Star in which all splendid musicianship of this veteran band comes to forefront. One Last Time is melancholy, mid tempo anthem with story how to rise up and live on and I love this perfection of a song. Not to discover just everything, check this one out. One of the best records to come out this year.
German thrash metal legends Kreator are back with their brand new full length opus. This time, there is an intro plus 10 songs on the tap, bringing relentless mixture of old school Kreator Euro thrash style with more modern metal approach as witnessed on band´s last couple of full lengths. That means fast and aggressive songs to go along with crowds at gigs well, Mille Petrozza´s trademark shouted/singing/barking vocals, blistering solos and catchy hooks and melodies in the song structures. After spaghetti western intro Sergio Corbucc is dead haha, the title song kicks in with a vengeance, mixing melodic bridge, brutal verses and riffs and screaming chorus. Beside all out thrash attack, Kreator also deliver slower marching, dark rolling song in shape of Crush The Tyrants, which you can almost physically feel how tough it is. One of my personal favorites is for sure Strongest Of The Strong, mid tempo anthem with such powerful main melody riff and brutal chorus. This middle part of the album is for me the best with autobiographical awesome Become Immortal, just made for pumping fist in the air and screaming along at gigs, also epic Conquer And Destroy melted my face off. But, the real gem is Midnight Sun featuring guest performance by Sofia Portanet, being a song so different yet similar to what Kreator did before. This is a superb and energetic thrash metal album by these genre legends.
Today I am pleased to announce the signing of Swedish melodic death/black/thrash metal from Sweden Eldprov.
Eldprov started in 2019 and released their first single “Until Nightfall” which quickly got a lot of listeners and the band even self-released it on a 100 copies cardsleeve cd that garnered a lot of interest in the band instantly. They released a new single titled “Hunt” the year after and already the band knew they got a formula going that was going home, as listeners couldn’t get enough and were screaming for a debut album to come. The time is soon here as Eldprov’s debut album Rift is soon upon us, featuring guest artists such as Heljarmadr (Dark Funeral, Grá, ex-Domgård), Jacob Björnfot (Kvaen), Johannes Axeman (ex- Wolf, ex-Decameron) and more. The album will be released in Q3 2022 on CD format via Grind to Death Records and is sure to come out with a bang.
Jonas Backe comments on signing with Grind to Death Records: “We are thrilled to have Jimmy at Grind to Death Records equip Eldprov with heavy artillery for the upcoming release which we eagerly await”
