(review) Audio Karate-Malo(Wiretap Records)

cover

The long awaited third album by Audio Karate is out now with Wiretap Records. The record contains 8 songs of melodic, emotional punkrock. The music of this band can be put into same drawer like for example The Menzingers, Nothington or Flatliners, but Audio Karate is specific because they somehow managed to keep their own signature brand style like great emotional voice in the vocal lines, some almost spacy melancholic and atmospheric parts like for example in Sin Cuchillo guitar lines. I am glad that they got back after they went to hiatus and did some other music projects because this new album proves that the guys still have dynamite in their bones. If you are into indie influenced and almost sad pop influenced great melodic punk then the songs like Get Mendoza or Room Down The Hallway are sure to become your favorites and I would recommend that you listen to this album couple of times and every time you will discover something new and cherishable for your pleasure.

New Jersey-based pop punk duo 18th & Addison have dropped a new video for “Leeches,” the first single off their upcoming Wiretap Records debut due out this fall.

Check out the “Leeches” video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z-Iai_MPUw&feature=youtu.be

“We really wanted to do something different then we usually do with our videos. We usually take a much more comedic approach but with this one we wanted to make it a bit more serious and tell a little bit of a darker story to drive home the vibe of the song.” – Kait DiBenedetto

“To sum up the concept, “Leeches” is a song about growth and progression towards a better future, a better sense of self no matter the cost. Out with the old and in with the new.”- Tom Kunzman

18th & Addison is an eclectic pop-rock/punk duo consisting of Tom Kunzman and Kait DiBenedetto. Fearlessly blending all of their musical influences from Punk Rock to 80’s New Wave to 90’s alternative and Power Pop, 18th & Addison are creating a style of music to proudly call their own. With their ferociously honest yet poetic lyrical content, unapologetic punch-in-the-gut guitar riffs and powerhouse drumming to drive it all home, they are proving that they are here to stay.

The duo has been releasing music since late 2014 and has produced two EPs and a full-length album independently amidst booking their own regional tours and shows in support of each one.

Upcoming shows:

7/27 – Rock The River – Toms River, NJ

8/24 – Shakers Pub – Oakdale, NY

9/6 The Brighton Bar- Long Branch, NJ (record release show)

9/13 – The Radio Room – Greenville, SC

WEATHERSTATE announce debut album ‘Born A Cynic’ Set for release May 10 via Wiretap Records

Bristol punk band Weatherstate have announced that their debut album ‘Born A Cynic’ will be released May 10 via Wiretap Records in North America and Failure By Design in UK/EU.

They’ve also revealed a new single ‘Brain Dead’, with a music video to go with.

Vocalist and guitarist Harry Hoskins says “Brain Dead is a song about disconnecting your feelings from yourself and your surroundings but enjoying every minute of it. This was one of the first jams we wrote for the record and the breakdown stuck out as something new for us. It was cool to throw a bit of a spanner in the works.”

‘Born A Cynic’ was recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Neil Kennedy & Daly George at The Ranch Production House. “We smashed out the initial recordings in 10 days during which I didn’t leave the studio for the entire time,” says guitarist Callan Milward. “It was freezing there and we were pretty pushed to get the whole record done. I remember suffering from some kind of sleep paralysis where I was tracking more rhythm guitars for the songs on the record in my sleep. This happened on a few of the nights.”

Such is Weatherstate’s dedication to their craft. “Sharing a room with a bandmate for 10 days can sometimes be challenging,” he continues. “I remember Harry essentially made his bunk bed into a literal bin which enticed a few rodents in during the night. I guess it just comes with recording an album in an old barn? Pretty sure a rat died in one of the walls of the Black Lodge too during this session.”

Weatherstate have spent the past couple of years playing shows up and down the country, as well as out on mainland Europe, most recently ripping up stages with Canada’s The Dirty Nil. They released their ‘Dumbstruck’ EP in 2016, also on Failure By Design, and teased their first full length with a ripper of a single ‘Rotten Lungs’ at the tail end of last year. Weatherstate’s take on punk harks back to legendary pop-punk bands of the 90s whilst incorporating a new energy that makes them one to watch in 2019.
