(review) Mayhem – Atavistic Black Disorder/Kommando e.p.

Mayhem

Norwegian black metal legends are back with new e.p. Mayhem released an e.p. containing 7 songs. First three songs, called Atavistic Black Disorder side of the e.p. are left overs from Daemon sessions and I may say that these songs are absolute Mayhem tour de force. From Voces Ab Alta which is a fantastic black metal hymn, across Black Glass Communion filled with Attila´s chanting and reminding me a lot of legendary De Mysteriis, to Everlasting Dying Flame which is for me my personal favorite of this opus. Kommando side of e.p. is band´s hommage to punk anthems which influenced the band and its members throughout the years. Covers of Discharge, Dead Kennedys, Rudimentary Peni and Ramones include guest performances by Messiah and Maniac, former singers of Mayhem and that all sounds great, but it is no match for original material side of this e.p. This e.p. serves as an addendum to Daemon album and shows how strong this black metal institution is right now. One of the best black metal bands ever.

(review) The Baseballs – Hot Shots

cover

Germany´s The Baseballs are back with new album. Although I am not usually an avid fan of cover bands there are couple of exceptions from that rule. The Baseballs are one of them. Yes, they play covers of famous hits but they do it in doo wop and rockabilly version, so melodic and sooo good. Vocals are phenomenal and this music, in this renditions takes you back in time to the times when you wore a knife in your boot and were ready to fight with another guys for your favorite rock music. There are fourteen songs on this album, they are all fantastic, but my personal favorites are Rock Me Amadeus, Forever Young, Jump and Paradise City. Awesome new album!

(review) The Interrupters – Live in Tokyo!

cover

In the year with no gigs The Interrupters decided to release a live album to remind us all how we miss gigs and energy, singing along and smiling enjoying great company and great music. This band is huge, delivering their melodic ska punk music with style, energy, great songwriting and anthemic songs topped with Aimee Interrupter´s awesome voice making her one of the best singers in the scene, also harmonic back vocals and musicianship of the Bivona brothers. There are ten songs on this one with all crown interaction and singing along. Setlist is superb with my personal favorites By My Side, Take Back The Power, Title Holder, Gave You Everything and all others being there. This is such great record.
