(review) Less Than Jake – Silver Linings

cover

This year was really shitty in my personal life, also in the world which changed, so many died, there were no gigs, tours of festivals, people who organize events, sound engineers, light technicians, bands, lost so much and had to cope and try to find a way to live.

But, musically, scene is still alive and there are couple of releases that make this year a bit better. Less Than Jake delivered new record. This new one contains 12 really fantastic and beautiful songs. Everyone who has ever listened to this band will know. They play awesome melodic punk with ska elements and mixture of guitars and brass instruments, along with superb vocal harmonies and backing vocals are just making me cry with joy. This one is for sure contender for one of the best releases this year. Lie To Me, King Of The Downside and So Much Less are for sure to win you over, being my personal favorites on this record. I love it. Also, check this band live, saw them in 2019 at Punk Rock Holiday that was one of the best gigs I ever attended.

(review) When the Lights Went Out was good horror surprise!

Although this movie was made in 2012, it somehow went under my radar for some reason. Now, eight years later, I said to myself let´s watch this one to see what is it all about.

Based on true events, this one tells of Maynard family who move into their dream house in Yorkshire, 1974. Well, not another haunted house bad movie, I said to myself. But, the beginning of the movie had some wicked energy that kept me tied to the screen and movie became more and more interesting. This movie is based on reports made of one of the most if not the most violent haunting poltergeist ever. The ghost is wicked, evil and merciless in letting Maynards know that they are not invited into his territory and it is angry because it is dead and because what has been done. This is not your angry girl ghost spirit movie. The atmosphere is somehow gloomy and sad, dark like listening to My Dying Bride on a grey cloudy day. The actors are just fine and I enjoyed every second of this horror. Go see it.

(review) Pleasure Trap – Walls

a1422683232_10

Pleasure Trap are coming from Warsaw, Poland and are associated with bands like Lazy Class whom we featured in this zine, also Lunatics and Obibox.

This is band´s second LP and it contains 10 songs. The music of Pleasure Trap can be described as punk rock in full sense of the word. That means, pumping bass, strong drumbeat, energetic songs, harsh yet melodic vocals and superb anthemic choruses just made for singing along. Also, I love ska parts of the songs and I can not avoid comparison with Rancid in some of the song structures.

The lyrics are in English and if I must say which songs of the album are highlights for me, it would be Walls, Bombs and best of all in my opinion Needful Things. Go get this one if you love full blooded punk rock.
