(movie) Belzebuth is an undiscovered horror jewel

I didn´t watch Belzebuth(2017) for quite some time because I thought that it is some possession Exorcist clone or something. Boy, I was wrong. This one is brutal! Tired and traumatized police inspector Ritter (excellent Joaquin Cosio) investigates the school massacre which looks pretty clear to solve in the beginning. He discovers that there is something totally different and sinister underneath and that nothing is as it seems, especially when priest Vasilio Canetti (Tobin Bell) mixes in his work and they begin desperate race with time.

Now, everything in this movie is just right. Story, acting led by Cosio and legendary Tobin Bell (Jigsaw of Saw movies fame, eh?), dark, dark story with almost no happy ending in sight, sadness, atmosphere, melancholy, topped with brutal death scenes that spare no one not even babies. There is a twist at the end of the movie which was not unpredictable and a little bit clicheed but the movie is done so good, that everything is forgiven. If you love horror, you will love Belzebuth.

(review) The Midnight Spookshow – The Valley of Shadows

I recently interviewed The Midnight Spookshow from Spain about their brand new e.p. and many other interesting themes.

Well, here it is, four songs from the depths of Hell, ready to take your black heart and melt your face off. The title song is for me one of the best on this release, kinda reminding me of Japanese Balzac in vocal lines and melodies. Production is gritty, diy and murky, kinda brings that vibe of darkness in the music, but also melancholy and melody. The Dark Passenger is a song with more of a metal vibe, I can even hear some goth influences in the midst of guitar work through the song structure. I must also commend clever use of samples on this record, I love that if they are done and used with style. Burking Method is for me best song besides above mentioned title song, having that awesome melancholic and dark main guitar melody combined with harsh sung vocals, killer song! Blood Spell brings back the horrorpunk singing along with many ooo parts and reminds me why I love this genre of music so much! So, go write to the guys and support them, you will not be sorry when you hear the e.p.

(review) Blood Geyser – Possession

cover

Blood Geyser from Melbourne, Australia are in no way strangers to this zine. We already talked about them and reviewed their debut album  here.  This time they released new record with 13 songs. Those who already know the magic of this band will enjoy this one, those who are hearing it for the first time will enjoy the darkness and horror it provides. The music of Blood Geyser has some horrorpunk roots but it also involves post punk, eighties darkened pop, noise and many other influences like metal and hardcore. The vocals are spooky, spoken, screamed, sung and sometimes guttural growled. Top that with samples from your favorite eighties horror movies you get winning combination for all horror fiends and ghoulettes out there thirsty for some good horror music. Songs like The Night He Came Home, Barricade the Doors or Feed Him the Bodies are sure to win you over and cover you in darkness. I dare say this one is a level above the debut album. Go listen for yourself and decide.
