(record review)Various-Sea Shepherd Compilation vol 3(Uncle M Music)

Usually I am not too keen of compilations, cover albums, tribute albums(only Tony Sly tributes are exemption from that rule hehe), but this little record by Uncle M Music is for the good cause benefit compilation for Sea Shepherd for the third time and I listened and reviewed that record for our zine.

860806

The record contains 9 songs that vary in genre and style, mainly staying in some punkrock, melodic punk and ska/reggae style. There are some bands I liked more than others like Satanic Surfers´awesome rendition of Iron Maiden´s classic Sanctuary or French melodic punks Hightower´s version of Suzanne Vega´s Luka, but there are some songs on this record which are just not my cup of tea. But, this record is for the good cause and nice effort so go get your copy.

(record review)Hans Roofthooft-Skeletons(Morning Wood Records)

Hans Roofthooft is known in the punk scene as the singer of F.O.D. but also as solo musican delivering great music. I listened and reviewed for our zine his new solo record out via Morning Wood Records.

cover

The album contains 15 songs in now recognizable Hans´style being a mixture of acoustic and standard instruments played melodic punkrock. There are almost folk punk influenced songs, at least they sounded to me like that for example in Misses Moody. One of the highlights of the album for me is sad trumpet and the sad vibe of Apprentice. The lyrics of the songs are personal and pretty mournful but still give hope for better tomorrow to me, the listener. Prudence and Passion has one of the sweetest backing vocal harmonies that I have listened in a long time. Almost pop dreamy melody of Nothing Like The Sun made me go out and feel the warmth of the Sun on my cheek. Beautiful. New York is also one of the most beautiful songs on this album for me, I listened to it over and over again. But, not to reveal every song to you, my hungry reader and eager music lover, you will have to listen to the album and find out the other beauties for yourself. Awesome record!

THE TAKE reveal their video ELITIST

“Hardcore used to be followed by the word punk and that’s what we originally wanted to create”.  What emerged is a refreshing mix of punk, oi, hardcore and rock & roll with melodic yet raspy vocals and a new approach to underground music. Famed NYHC drummer WILL SHEPLER (formerly of AGNOSTIC FRONT, MADBALL) and SICK OF IT ALL bassist CRAIG SETARI (also formerly AGNOSTIC FRONT) had an idea for a hardcore power trio. Will called longtime friend, guitarist/vocalist SCOTT ROBERTS (formerly of BIOHAZARD, THE SPUDMONSTERS, BLOODCLOT!, CRO-MAGS) who had just left BIOHAZARD only weeks before. It was perfect timing for SCOTT as he wanted to move on and create something new from the ground up with complete creative freedom and passion.  Soon after, SCOTT and WILL began working on what would become THE TAKE´s self titled debut record. CRAIG was busy with SICK OF IT ALL´s hectic touring schedule so SCOTT recruited friend and oi veteran CARLOS CONGOTE (ROYAL HOUNDS, formerly of 45 ADAPTERS, URBAN NOISE,    LEGION 76) to complete the lineup. “Elitist” was directed and produced by noted filmmaker – legendary in his own rights – DREW STONE in a collaboration with JEFF PLISKIN (RAISED FIST PROPAGANDA). STONE directed “The New York Hardcore Chronicles Film” as well as “Who The Fuck Is That Guy?” The Fabulous Journey which is now on Netflix. He also directed videos for SICK OF IT ALL, AGNOSTIC FRONT & MADBALL.
