Down Memory Lane are in no way strangers to the pages of this zine. Montreal based melodic hardcore punk band released their new e.p. There are eight songs on this one, last being cover of The Beatles. I dare say that this new e.p. is the best one this band released yet, music is still fast and energetic hardcore punk, but with so much melody, speed, vigor and fantastic main and backing vocal harmonies. Lyrics are a perfect mixture of personal and political. My personal favorites are White House and Pandemic Rockabye, I listened to latter for many times in a row and still am in awe of this song. But, all of the material is just superb if you love your hardcore punk melodic and uplifting. For sure, one of the top ten releases which came out this year of the genre.
Dutch punk rock bands No Breakfast Goodbye and Ink Bomb are in no way strangers to the pages of this webzine. They released this split record and I can safely say that this is one of the releases I was eager to listen and just couldn´t wait to come out. Each band offers three songs on this release. No Breakfast Goodbye play high energy melodic punk/skatepunk with such beautiful melodies and choruses I just enjoyed every second of their side. My personal NBG song is The Losers Club of these three presented on this record. Both bands are great, but somehow I like Ink Bomb a bit better, being a bit more raw and a bit more hardcore punk side of things yet retaining enough melody to be fantastic. My personal favorite from their side of the record is Dorothy Enters Technicolor. Nice split release indeed!
Norwegian black metal legends are back with new e.p. Mayhem released an e.p. containing 7 songs. First three songs, called Atavistic Black Disorder side of the e.p. are left overs from Daemon sessions and I may say that these songs are absolute Mayhem tour de force. From Voces Ab Alta which is a fantastic black metal hymn, across Black Glass Communion filled with Attila´s chanting and reminding me a lot of legendary De Mysteriis, to Everlasting Dying Flame which is for me my personal favorite of this opus. Kommando side of e.p. is band´s hommage to punk anthems which influenced the band and its members throughout the years. Covers of Discharge, Dead Kennedys, Rudimentary Peni and Ramones include guest performances by Messiah and Maniac, former singers of Mayhem and that all sounds great, but it is no match for original material side of this e.p. This e.p. serves as an addendum to Daemon album and shows how strong this black metal institution is right now. One of the best black metal bands ever.
