(book) Scott Ian:I´m The Man

Scott Ian is known in the metal scene as legendary guitarist of legendary Anthrax from New York, one of the big 4 thrash metal bands besides Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth. Somehow, during my years of growing up, Anthrax always went under my radar, being somehow left beside and I have been listening to much more Metallica, Slayer especially and Megadeth. So, I was very interested to read partly co written autobiography, with Jon Wiederhorn as co-writer, who also did a recent book by Roger Miret from Agnostic Front as co-writer. Foreworded by Kirk Hammett from Metallica, this one is an interesting read, cover to cover. From Scott growing up as tiny Jewish boy in New York to all the peaks, heartbreaks and downs with Anthrax. parting ways with Joey Beladonna, John Bush, reunions, but what makes this book more interesting are all the anecdotes that Scott shared, legendary Billy Milano(S.O.D.) stuff, fine with late Dimebag of Pantera, some really gruesome stuff from tours, sex, drinking and above all love for extreme music that kept us all in the scene for so many years. This one is a keeper. Great read.

(review) Fastloud-Dive In A Life

cover

Fastloud are hailing from Barcelona, Spain and this is their new record. On this record we get 10 songs of fast skatepunk/melodic hardcore punk. I love this record, it is just the way I like such music, simple, fast, no pretending and having great melodies in vocal lines, cool harmonies and catchy songs made for singing along or humming to the melody. They remind me a lot of all those old school Epitaph and Fat bands in the glorious nineties, meaning No Use For A Name, Lagwagon, Nofx and similar, having a lot of fire and passion in their songs. The lyrics are personal and I think anyone of us can relate to them, they are not coded messages in slowed down songs, hehe. My personal favorites on this record are: The 4th Wall, Strangers and Side By Side.

(review) Mayhem-Daemon

mayhem_daemon_cover

Norwegian black metal legends Mayhem are back with their brand new studio full length album. I will not go into all the past and folk tales of Euronymous, Dead, at least talk about that shitty piece of movie called Lords Of Chaos, laughable Hollywood crap.

The new album contains fresh Mayhem and it is good, dark, heavy, black metal and technical. I especially love the melody of The Dying False King and darkened wicked hook and atmosphere of Bad Blood which has haunting guitar solo so similar to legendary solo on Freezing Moon, but sheer brutality and merciless pummeling of Agenda Ignis is also total fantastic strike. Vocalist Attila sounds very convincing with his inhuman croak, whispers and screams, also spoken parts. The guitarists create superb atmospheric arrangements of sheer brutal soundscapes, along with thundering Necrobutcher´s bass, but for me the real hero is drummer Hellhammer, for me one of the best drummers in extreme music, human metronome. Malum is also one of my favorites with clean singing parts, being modern black metal anthem for new Mayhem millenium and this band still has so much to offer without only living in the past. You can return there and always be proud of the past, but the reality must lie in the future. Good album.
