(review) Haest-Anomie(TNSRecords)

Layout 1

Haest are from Hastings, UK and they are releasing their debut full length with TNSRecords. What we get here are 14 songs of hardcore punk fun, the songs being pretty short in duration. Haest play hardcore punk in the basic underlayer, but they are mixing doom and even some sludgy elements in the song structures, so I was pleasently surprised when Unstable Picnic started slowly rolling in, with pretty dark atmosphere of the song riffs. There are more fast straightforward songs with thundering bass, great guitar and drums, but the song titles made me really smile, with titles like The Only Good Wham Is A Wham Bar, or maybe Doom & Gloom & Dio Room you just can˙t go wrong hehe. The vocals are shouted and remind a lot of eighties doom metal bands, but hey that is just only me. It would sure be fun to catch these guys live, the show is fantastic, I am sure!

(review) For I Am-Late Bloomers(Bearded Punk Records)

folder

This is a little bit older release, but no matter, never too late for great music! I am listening to For I Am new album and I am amazed, with jaw dropped in admiration. This Belgian band played Beach stage at Punk Rock Holiday, but I missed their set unfortunately, I am so sorry for that after listening to this album. This music is melodic, highly contagious skatepunk/pop punk with fantastic vocals, courtesy of Hanne, she has one of the sweetest voices in the punkrock scene right now. This 15 songs are a lesson i how punkrock is done. From faster songs like Between Us or 1978 and fantastic P.I.G.O.T.R.Y. to slower more pop punk anthems like All About Perspectives with superb lyrics and melody, this album is hit from top to bottom. This is simple, old school melodic punk/skatepunk which we love, all of us who love more old school less technical sound with nineties vibe. Great record!

(review) USUD-As Old As The Hills

a0039804067_10A bit older release by USUD, band from Zagreb, Croatia. Although they are not so active anymore due to other obligations in life, these guys were one of the best bands in the scene with their progressive mix of melodic death metal, post metal and hardcore.

This is their newest record with material which was actually recorded a while ago, 2011.-2014. but actually mixed, mastered and released in 2019. These 7 songs show how it is done. Brutal death metal blasts mix with atmospheric parts and lots of catchy and melodic wicked guitar riffs underneath it all. I love poetic lyrics in English which are very personal, but somehow I can relate to them. What is fun, when I listened to the record every time I have listened to a song, I thought that one is the best on the album, but now, I think all of the songs are fantastic, if I must choose three that would be Possessed, Soulless and the title song. Wicked record! You can download it for free at Bandcamp, but also you can leave a dime or two or drop a word or two to the guys if you like the album, I am sure they will appreciate it.
