(review) Bandaid Brigade-I´m Separate

Screen_Shot_2019-12-16_at_9.13.38_AM

Bandaid Brigade is a new band in the scene but the you might know the members via their other bands and projects. With line-up Brian Wahlstrom(Scorpios, Gods Of Mount Olympus…), Zach Quinn(Pears), Paul Rucker(Street Dogs) and Chris Fogal(The Gamits) little could go wrong, right? Right! This is for sure one of the best albums I have listened for a long time. This is not your usual hardcore punk mayhem. These songs are punkrock in the base, but leaning more on pop, rock, mainly some 80-ies influences. I can hear a lot of Freddie Mercury in Everything, song with fantastic melody. Travel Light, song for which a video was made is more of a disco pop punk song and shows all the richness of Brian and Zach in their vocal lines, creating otherworldly experience while listening. You can hear a bit of sax in Stay Busy, but also cello and violin in the song structures, showing these guys are not afraid to break boundaries and enrich the songs, yet returning to heavy guitar duty with the superb guitar melody in Treat Me Like A Christmas Tree, then comes Losing Light, the song which I listened on repeat for many, many, times. Not to discover just all, the scene purists will not like this one, I personally love this record. I would love to see this band live, I know it would be a blast.

Cutthroat-Reflekt(Demons Run Amok)

COVER

Cutthroat from Los Angeles are back with their new record out with Demons Run Amok. Relentless touring and hard work are getting to our ears because these 5 songs on this record are just fantastic. First that fell on my mind when the record started is old school Biohazard. But, then I heard all those things we loved in the 90-ies hardcore as kids, that being harsh vocals, rap parts, metalic and streetpunk guitar riffs and good lyrics you can relate to. Cutthroat deliver so energetic and at the same time electrified record that my hair stood and I got goosebumps because I felt like I returned through time, yet at the same time this is hardcore for modern kids and 21st century. I love Rat and also Never Settle, those two being my favorites on this record although all five of the songs were on repeat for long time. I can´t wait for the full length and to catch these guys play live somewhere, with songs like these this one is a keeper!

(review) Nothing Left-Disconnected(Facedown Records)

Nothing Left are back with their first full length album out with Facedown Records. We get 9 songs of more brutal, apocalyptic hardcore. In fact, these guys are playing what we called in the 90-ies new school hardcore, meaning metalic riffs, brutal vocals, mosh parts, grooves, but also enough old school fast straightforward parts to make it hardcore not metal. This sounds to me like Madball crossed paths with Integrity and met Slayer somewhere along the way. Good references, aren˙t they? For me, somehow Dust Into Dust, Into The Emptiness and the title song somehow work out the best as the highlights for this record. This is a good one, if you are a fan of hardcore such as this.
