(review) Hostile Omish-XXX(Jib Machine Records)

cover

Hostile Omish are Ohio punk legends and they are celebrating thirty years in the scene. This is my bad that I never heard of them prior to this record. But, now I am glad that I corrected this mistake. This new record out with Jib Machine Records is their first one with new material in thirteen years and the record contains nineteen songs. The band describes themselves as barncore punk hehe, nice one indeed! The music of Hostile Omish is energetic, fast paced hardcore punk with a lot of melody and still remaining harsh enough to be enjoyed also by the punks who are not too fond of melodic skatepunk. Harley Girl is the right example of how this band sound, no wonder they chose that one to be single off the album. The song structures are way different in some songs, making this material really interesting for listening with no fillers on the record. The vocals are just right, neither too harsh, nor too melodic for the music. The lyrics are pretty cheesy and funny with song titles I Sat On My Nuts, Superhero In My Underwear or Snake being highlights for me. This is a really great band!

(review) Nuvolascura-Nuvolascura(Zegema Beach Records)

2nd press cover

This is a bit older release, but Zegema Beach Records released it and thankful to that awesome label, here we have it to listen and enjoy great music of Nuvolascura. This California based band plays a mixture of mathcore, screamo, straightforward hardcore punk with post hardcore influences thrown in the song structures here and there.  There are 11 songs on this record. The whole structure and atmosphere of the songs is very darkened with a little or no way out from the today situation of despair and sadness. At least that is what I feel while listening to the record. Some calmer, acoustic atmospheric parts of the song only pave the way towards more destruction and total screaming catharsis. If you are a fan of such hardcore music, try this one, you will not regret it!

(review) The Phosphorus Bombs-…Against You!

cover

The Phosphorous Bombs from Sydney are no strangers to the pages of this zine. We already reviewed their record and now is the time for the brand new e.p.

There 7 ferocious no mercy hardcore punk songs on this one. The title song reminds me a bit of old school Sick Of It All days, yet the guys retain the gritty dirtiness in their sound but with enough of melody and energy to last you for days when you remember the aural attack this record provides. The lyrics are in your face, personal yet angry and you can relate to them. This one is a keeper. It is so much more improved than the last record which I also liked very much. Recommended songs: Against You!, 88 Days, Too Much Of Me.
