New York hardcore legends Cro-Magsare back with a new seven inch e.p. out with Victory Records. There are three songs on this record the title track featuring Phil Campbell of Motorhead. I am sure Harley and the boys loved it. I am glad that all of the court unpleasentries and gossips are over and Cro-Mags are stronger than ever with Harley enjoying second youth delivering mindblowing gigs all over the world. For me, the best song on this e.p. is PTSD reminding me a lot of Best Wishes hits although I am not some nostalgic motherfucker who listens and wants only old material, on the contrary both new e.p.-s are superb, musicianship is tight and hardcore energy is present greater than ever. Between Wars is an atmospheric, kinda dark and longer song, more complex than the aformentioned two, it shows how capable this band is to create great songs. Go check out this one, hardcore still lives! Love it!
Lionheart are from California and this is their seventh album. These pioneers of metalic hardcore/crossover deliver 10 songs of no holds barred, relentless hardcore with roots in street smartness and concrete jungle survival instinct. The music is modern hardcore with brutal grooves, moshing parts, yet also some catchy guitar riffs and angry, sing along shouted vocals that fit perfectly to the music. Check out the title song for which a video was made, or fantastic Rock Bottom featuring guest Jesse Barnett, also When I Get Out if you want to feel tour de force of modern hardcore with guts, grit and glory. I am sure this band sounds fantastic live and I will definitely check them out. This one is a sure winner.
This is e.p. number four by Milhouse Van Halen who is definitely not a stranger to the pages of this zine. This one is also released with Horn & Hoof Records and it contains two beautiful songs of melodic acoustic punk sounding almost poetic and lovely for listening at dusk and daydreaming about some warmer and better times when the Sun warms your skin. Seriously, this material sounds very dark with Divorce being a bit better song in my opinion than Romance although they are part of one concept. The vocals are strong and emotional, the guitar and melody lines are fantastic. Stay tuned for more and I can`t hardly wait.
