(review) goldenboy-Adult disoriented rock

Norway is known for beautiful nature and fjords, also for black metal. But, there are other bands in Norway too. Goldenboy is a band from Bergen and they play melodic punk. I listened and reviewed their new record for our zine.

These guys have been around since 1999.delivering music. After couple of quieter years this is their new e.p. with five songs on. Goldenboy play beautiful melodic punk with pop punk influences, not being cheesy and delivering energetic punk with awesome vocals backed by great backing vocal harmonies. Of all the songs on this record, Old And Boring and Faded Photographs are somehow highlights for me. But, don´t get me wrong the whole e.p. is just perfect for all the fans of melodic and beautiful heartfelt punkrock just made for singing and humming along. I have never heard of Goldenboy prior to this record, but now I am really happy being able to check out this band. I would love to hear them play live, because I am sure they are soo much better live. I just love this record. 9/10

This band comes from Winnipeg, Canada and they play a bit noisy, yet melodic and heartbreaking and heartwarming punkrock. The record contains 11 beautiful songs similar to the music of Menzingers, Nothington and similar bands. Meaning, melodic vocal lines, excellent personal lyrics, emotional atmosphere and tight musicianship. The songs that somehow stood out to me are Pantomime, Bitter, the title track and Monstrosity. This is not your fast paced skate hardcore punk, this is a different kind of punkrock. It is full of feelings, melodic, poetic and the overall vibe for me while listening to this record is kind of sad. Like it brings out to me all the sadness to the surface of my inner lake and then sending a wave to clear it up and bring me catharsis. That makes it really good and enjoyable record. So, if you are a fan of such music, go listen, write a word or two to the guys and show them you appreciate your work, I know they will appreciate it a lot.

This Vienna, Austria based melodic skatepunk pop punk influenced band are going down to history with all guns blazing blasting their swansong with 8 melodic punkrock songs Europan style, not unlike Bambix, This Side Up and similar bands. From the faster skatepunk influenced title song, accross serious sounding Addiction Turns Into Fiction four guys and a girl deliver just great music just made to singalong and hum to all day. One of the highlights of the album for me is definitely Even Angels Need To Learn How To Fly, beautiful song indeed. Wake Up is another song with awesome vocal melodies courtesy of singer Pia. I love this girl´s voice, neither too mellow, nor too harsh, ideal for this kind of music backed with wonderful backing vocal harmonies and melodies. One of the songs I must also mention is Goodbye which ends the record and the band in a symbolic way, closing one era and opening another one. Good one.
