(record review)The Brainiax-Rock N Roll Lobotomy(Batcave Records)

The Brainiax are just releasing their new record with the mighty Batcave Records. I listened and reviewed the record for our zine.

cover

These guys are hailing from Portland and I must admit that I have never heard of them prior to this record. The music of The Brainiax can be described as psychobilly, leaning more heavily on the old school psycho bands like Demented Are Go, Batmobile and similar legendary bands. This record contains 10 songs of old school hard rocking psychobilly with some ska influences(Cape Fear), also, I can hear some doo wop rock n roll in No Way. The album is varied and in no way boring, with country influenced The Bastard Sun, for me one of the best songs on the album Devil Doll. Anyway, the best songs come in the last third of the album, namely Hideous Horrific and House On The Hill, being psycho hits for the new millenia haha. Good one.

RYKERS_COVER_1440

There were couple of last years that were turbulent for these hardcore veterans from Kassel. Line-up change, taking some ugly words spoken from the former fans who were indeed never fans at all, but that only made the band stronger. Hence, this new record contains 15 songs of awesome hardcore punk with metalic influences. Compared to their classic material from the 90-ies this new stuff is a bit more catchy and melodic, but also remaining hardcore with a sharp edge.

There are couple of songs that are bound to become instant classics in my opinion like awesome Let´s Ruin The Scene with great melodic hooks, lyrics and awesome trumpet in the end of the song. Also, Cast In Stone is bound to become a hit in the band´s live setlist for sure. Dead End Street is a hardcore anthem featuring guest performance by none other than Roger Miret. One more guest performance that is awesome is Matt Henderson delivering wicked guitar solo on Collateral Damage. What surprised me the most on this record is the new version of and old hit Cold Lost Sick done in piano/atmospheric way combined with great vocals and it still gives me goosebumps when I listen to this new version. The album is varied, there are no fillers on this album, so that makes it one awesome and strong record.

(record review)The Dick Dastardly´s-Burakku Demon King(Slack Records)

I am usually not to keen when hearing and listening punk n roll bands, or garage punk bands, because most of them are too boring rock n roll and too few punk in their music to keep me interested, but there are exceptions from that rule, like this band. This album features 10 songs of awesome high energy, octane fueled pumped dirty punkrock with speed, ferocity and arrogance. I love it! This songs make you wanna go out and drink till you drop, then drink some more and listen to great punk. The songs Hard Drugs, Fucked Up Ronnie and Nuclear Korean Girl are for sure my highlights from this record. If I must compare this band to some other, it would be Dwarves but these guys are a bit less melodic than the current Dwarves. So, if you are a fan of fast paced, raw but energetic and melodic punk, check these guys out! Good one!
