(record review)SKASSAPUNKA-“Adelante”(KobRecords Italia)

Skassapunka are now ten years old. Formed in Lainate, near Milan, Italy, they quickly evolved into one of the best European ska punkrock acts. This is their brand new fourth album that came out on mighty KobRecords Italia and I listened and reviewed it for this webzine.

The album contains 11 songs just made to make your day and put you back up on your feet and make you dancing. The music is a mixture of melodic punk and ska with some core influences. Excellent sing along anthemic choruses, fast ska punk rythm songs for jumping and dancing and a nice lyrical stand. These guys sing against fascism, homophobia, xenophobia, imperialist tendencies…so they have their hearts and souls in the right places. The lyrics are in Italian mostly and I once already stated how I love Italian language in punk, especially melodic punk music, because it is such beautiful melodic langauge that fits nicely in melodic punkrock. So, if you love ska melodic punkrock and love to dance, sing and shout out to the loud punkrock this is the record just made for you! Top songs for me:”Entusiasmo y Venceremos” and “Back to the Past”, also “Crazy Town”.

(record review)VARIOUS-“The quarter hour of power compilation”

This is an excellent 7 inch record compilation featuring 14 bands from St Louis area all delivering songs one minute long or less. I listened to it and reviewed it for this webzine.

The record contains some new, some older bands all delivering previously unreleased tracks. As it usually is, some bands are better, some are not so good, depends on the personal musical taste. I personally liked the more melodic bands on this record like Horror Section, Sink the Bismark and Braddock. There is something really for everyone, from the more brutal hardcore punk of Hell Night, the new band featuring Brian Fair of Shadows Fall on the vocals or the debut of hardcore Chalked Up. I really love how this record sounds and gives us insight to the great and less known hardcore punk scene, not usually mentioned in many zines, blogs and stuff… Get this record if you can!

(record review)Forever Unclean-“Woof”(Pee Records)

Forever Unclean is a punkrock band from Copenhagen, Denmark and they just released their new record on Pee Records, so it was about time to spin it a couple of times, listen and do a review for this webzine.

This trio plays melodic punkrock with indie and skatepunk influences. This record contains 5 songs and they all have one word in the title of the song. If I should compare the music to someone it would be The Flatliners or The Menzingers but with some noisy touches, at least I heard´em in “Weird”. For me, the best song on the album is “Words” with a nice melody made for sing along parts. Also, my favorite is “Woof”, the title song, being just somehow very catchy and melodic and I loved it. I don´t have the lyric sheet, so I can only hear the lyrics while listening to the record and as I can hear, the lyrics are based on personal themes. There is a lot of emotion behind this band´s music and I love their record for that. It was rather short, but sweet. I can´t wait for full length material. Great band that shows the beauty and adversity of European underground punkrock and hardcore scene.
