(record review)Circenses-“Tightrope Walk on the Ground”(Inverse Records)

Circenses from Finland started as one man band project by mastermind Severi Osala in 2016.  The band is hailing from Seinäjoki, Ostrobothnia. This is the album released on Inverse Records and I listened and reviewed it for this webzine.

The album contains 9 songs of melodic death metal combined with some prog elements. The whole thing sounds to me like more aggressive version of Edge of Sanity and I love this album because of that. I think that metal flows in people´s veins when they are born in Finland and this is no exception. I loved the melodies combined with blastbeats and keyboard background in “Lunacy” or tender and prog death metal parts in the title song. The vocals are harsh but understandable so this is one more plus for this album. As always, I am fascinated by the feeling of melancholy that Finnish bands create when doing their music and how their art sounds sad but also really majestic in my heart when I listen to it. This is great record, so go get it!

8/10

(news)SIFTING reveal new video for epic power ballad ‘Gloom’, on tour w/ Sons of Apollo & Felix Martin

Los Angeles, CA’s progressive rock/metal rising stars Sifting have just released a new music video for their epic power-ballad track “Gloom” which is the fifth music video from their latest full-length album Not From Here. The video was directed by Alejandro Fumero Gil, and filmed in beautiful Santa Monica Mountains in Malibu, CA and Santa Clarita, CA. Watch it right now at this location.

“This is probably the most personal song I have ever written” says frontman Eduardo Gil. “In this song I describe what I felt the day of the plane crash that took my mother’s life, which I suppressed in my mind for so many years. I just didn’t want to feel what I felt that day ever again… but acceptance is part of the healing and the evolution of every human being. I struggled with myself for many days bringing myself to sit down and write about it. Then one day I finally got the courage to do it. Once I started writing, it was like it was a song I was remembering, like it was already written. It just came out.” Guitarist Richard Garcia continues, “Bringing Gloom to life, just felt right, even if it isn’t most people would expect a progressive metal band to release as a single. But honestly, we just love to be showing the “sensitive” side of the band with Gloom, because, just like humans, we are dual, we need both sides of the coin.”

Sifting’s latest full-length album Not from Here, was released in 2017 via Eclipse Records. The album was produced by Ryan Williams (Deftones, Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against the Machine) and Steve Evetts (Sense’s Fail, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Suicide Silence). The band has previously released four music videos promoting the album for the songs ‘Blowing Fire’, ‘Nothing but Us’, ‘Not from Here’, and the progressive metal masterpiece ‘Epsilon’. The band recently wrapped up North American tours supporting Prong, Powerflo, Dayshell, and Eyes Set to Kill, and they are currently on tour with Sons of Apollo and Felix Martin.

(news)KLEE PROJECT IS BACK! THE NEW SINGLE “I’LL BREAK IT DOWN” AVAILABLE FROM MAY 24TH!

Two years lived intensely by the band, between line-up changement and an interesting artistic evolution, as explained by their frontman Roberto Sterpetti: “After the first concept album ‘The Long Way’ I felt the desire to give a clear direction on the new stuff. With this positive mood in the summer 2017 I realized 11 tracks in just a couple of weeks! But Klee Project is a team, and not a personal project, for this reason I wanted to involve great musician friends who could make this new job unique… And for this reason I’m proud to announce Chicco Gussoni (lead guitar) and Daniele Iacono (drums), new entries that have magnificently shaped the sound of the songs. Lorenzo Poli (bass) remains a certainty of the Klee Project by making a real glue to the whole band. All enriched by the lyrics written by two american singers, Mike Botula and Blitch Vizioli, who told stories and incredible sensations. The desire to represent myself in this style was so strong that I did not think about so many frills. Essential, powerful and decisive!”.
