Eastern European scene is full of undiscovered bands and jewels from the neverending well of underground. THE NIGHT is one of such bands. Hailing from Odessa, Kiev they are conisting of the members of Kingpin and PowerPlay.
This is, as I understand their debut release. The album is recorded in Odessa, Ukraine and mixed and mastered in USA. There are 6 tracks on this record. They love to say that their music is a mix of Misfits, Black Flag, Type O Negative and Alkaline Trio. The Night´s music is pretty wild and raw but also melodic as in the opener “Absolute Power”. There is a lot of Black Flag aggression and noisy arrogance in “Subhuman” for me the most noise influenced and harsh track on the record. You can almost feel the dust in “Pyramid”. The singer reminds me a lot of Cancerslug´s Alex Story and the whole song structures too especially in “Night on Earth”. The title track is a noisy, distorted ode to this world´s destruction and nihilism. The last song “Love in Sunnydale” is my favourite and best on this record. Check out these guys, they deserve it!
Dutch punkrockers Antillectual released their new video, but apart from being awesome song, this video is so much more!
For their song Change the Standard Antillectual and director Ivana Smudja created a music video in combination with 5 mini documentaries. The documentaries show people and organizations changing the standard in their field of work towards more sustainable, fair trade and organic industries and society. The series is proof that entrepreneurs like these, many with a background rooted in punk rock and DIY ethics, can make a change.
So, catch the guys on tour because they are awesome live, I tell you that!
Australian scene never ceases to amaze me with so many excellent bands that I discover every time I listen to their music. The Playbook is one of such bands. This five members pop punkrock band from Melbourne released recently their new album and it was time for me to listen and review it for this webzine.
The album contains 13 songs of ultramelodic melodic punkrock inspired a lot with pop punk and the album as a whole is very energetic and catchy for your listening pleasure if you are a fan of such music. From the awesome opener “Falling short”, accross the very nice and energetic “Sleep state” to a bit atmospheric and then fast “Regardless/Reach”, this album provides the listener with melody, great lyrics, harmonies, catchy guitar hooks and vocalist´s Laura´s voice sound awesome and strong. In all this record will do you just good on a late Tuesday afternoon to have some punk melodies to sweeten your day.
