(horror movie)NIGHTWORLD-Great idea, but not so great realization

Haven´t seen any good modern newer horror for a while and I thought this one was okay, judging by the story description, so I decided to watch and see what was it all about. It also has one of my all time favorite horror actors Robert Englund starring in it, so the choice was obvious.

The first third of the movie was okay with retired LAPD cop Brett Anderson moving to Sofia, Bulgaria, after the tragic passing of his wife. He decided to take over the job of night watchmen in a peculiar old building in the Bulgarian capitol. As it always happens, strange and bizarre incidents start to happen there and Brett is drawn in an ancient fight between good and evil, our world and the next…Boy, sounds better than it really is. The second and third movie become pretty lame and boring. No gore scenes, no real scares and no atmosphere. When Robert Englund walks to the screen, he kinda saves the situation a bit with his charisma, but not even he can save plainly bad script. The idea used in this movie was already used in legendary The Sentinel and many similar movies afterwards, but it was realized very poorly with ending being so hasty and so somehow unbelievable to the average horror movie viewer that it was just bad to watch it. It is plain all time during the movie that the budget was very low. But, despite the budget, you can make excellent horror movie with a great script. This one was not the case.

(record review)The Chromosomes-“Losing Eleven”

The Chromosomes from Livorno, Italy are playing punk since 1993. and remain loyal to the DIY ethics of the underground punk hardcore scene. Respect to the guys who recently delivered their fifth album and I am proud to be able to listen and review it for this zine.

“Losing Eleven” contains 11 tracks of awesome melodic punkrock which is perfect for listening in these days of Spring sunny and warm days. All of the tunes have that excuisite melody that only Italian bands can provide. This band reminds me a lot of Italian bands which I used to listen to in the 90-ies like Derozer for example or This Side Up and I love them for that because the music of The Chromosomes made me nostalgic and brought tear of joy to my eye remembering singing aloud and pogoing to the music of similar bands like 20 years ago. In the time when you think that you and your friends are invincible and nothing can stop you. Nowadays you realize that from the crew that was then, only you remained. But, I digress. The lyrics of the songs are in English and typical for the happier side of punk music. On the whole this album could pass under Ramones Cora music like Teenage Bottlerocket are playing. My favourite songs on this record are “Heavy metal kid”, “Leavin Canada”.

(record review)The Hayleys-“Raato”(Gorba Records)

I love Finnish bands, they always provide quality music with a dose of originality, that defiance, only trademark of Finland´s scene and people. This time I listened to and reviewed the new record by The Hayleys.

cover

The Hayleys come from the town called Jyväskylä and play awesome dirty combination of hardcore punk and metal. This record contains 9 tracks of pure Armageddon of Satan worshipping punk and sexy orgiastic hardcore riffs and energy. Catchy melodic hooks, energetic fast drumming and rawness but also melancholy of punk make this record a winner! The production of this record is just perfect being crystal clear but also retaining that dirty and raw cellar vibe. The lyrics are in Finnish, so I don´t understand a word what they´re singing about but judging by the music I can imagine hehe. If I must compare the music of The Hayleys with someone then I would compare it to one of my favourite bands, Impaled Nazarene. This album is great stuff for all of us who love this kind of music. Top songs: “Kuollut turre ei murise” and “Kyykaarme”.
