(review) Serrucho – ‘Quien es el Zombie Aqui’

SERRUCHO are hailing from Huelva, Spain and this is the new opus containing five songs, one being cover by Coronados. The music of Serrucho is not easy to describe, it is a mixture of hardcore punk, powerviolence, grindcore with some metal influences in the song structures here and there. Vocals are screaming and occasionally growling, fitting perfectly in the songs, with lyrics in Spanish language. What I love the most is continuation of some epic melodies throughout the songs, beneath all the brutality there is also lots of epic guitar work and hooks, thus making this music not another boring grindcore band. My personal favorites of five songs are ‘Te Jiede La Boca A Mocos De Cono’ and ‘3 Vomitos 3 Ejecuziones 3 Muertes’. I also love the clever use of samples and the horror atmosphere in some of the songs. Go listen to this one if you love bands like this one.

(review) Poison Ruïn – Härvest

I must admit that I have never listened to Poison Ruïn until this new record that is out with Relapse. These guys are hailing from Philadelphia and this release contains eleven songs. Music on this record can be described as punk rock, I mean really raw punk with rudimentary melodies in the song structures, distorted raw guitars, shouted vocals but also melody here and there. I can also hear some unique dungeon synth influences in this one, along with medieval influences, especially in lyrical approach. This is punk with fantasy lyrics, but fantasy lyrics which can be transcribed to today’s modern hardships and modern slavery of men. Songs have dungeon synth intros and almost post punk darkened feel in them, making this record really apocalyptic and fun to listen to. By depicting themes in songs like ‘Tome of Illusion’, ‘Torture Chamber’, or ‘Bastards Dance’ this one offers music and lyrics where boundaries of reality and fantasy interplay into one whole, sometimes being hard do divide one from another. This is not your happy merry go round record for listening on a sunny hot day to bring back smile on your face. No, quite the contrary, there is kind of rebellious but also hopeless vibe to the music and lyrics of Poison Ruïn, making this band quite unique and very special punk band that will appeal to battle hardened gutter punks, but also to more fantasy oriented people. So, open your mind and go listen to this one, because it is different, raw, melodic and epic sounding at the same time.

(review) NUFO – ‘stick together’

NUFO are coming from Graz, Austria and this is their new release and it contains nine songs. NUFO are playing nineties styled melodic punk hardcore and if I must compare it to some band, it would be a mixture of No Fun At All and all those California’s bands we love, like Pennywise for example. That means fast songs, ultra melodic beautiful singer’s voice topped with backing vocal harmonies and superb songwriting. Lyrics deal with isolation, hysteria, dealing with personal problems in your head, keeping the faith and trying to stay normal in this crazy world but also with a touch of engaged politics, also humor and self irony too. I think some of the song themes were influenced with covid lockdown and some of the themes remind me of what I was thinking during that pandemic and I can totally relate to most of the lyrics on this album. My personal favorites are ‘Transparent Barriers’, ‘Hysteria’, also ‘Tear Gas’ and ‘Keep Your Faith’. Bandcamp version of the album also contain the lyrics, so it is a whole package, I recommend this one, since this is an awesome melodic hardcore punk album.
