(review) Mayhem-Daemon

mayhem_daemon_cover

Norwegian black metal legends Mayhem are back with their brand new studio full length album. I will not go into all the past and folk tales of Euronymous, Dead, at least talk about that shitty piece of movie called Lords Of Chaos, laughable Hollywood crap.

The new album contains fresh Mayhem and it is good, dark, heavy, black metal and technical. I especially love the melody of The Dying False King and darkened wicked hook and atmosphere of Bad Blood which has haunting guitar solo so similar to legendary solo on Freezing Moon, but sheer brutality and merciless pummeling of Agenda Ignis is also total fantastic strike. Vocalist Attila sounds very convincing with his inhuman croak, whispers and screams, also spoken parts. The guitarists create superb atmospheric arrangements of sheer brutal soundscapes, along with thundering Necrobutcher´s bass, but for me the real hero is drummer Hellhammer, for me one of the best drummers in extreme music, human metronome. Malum is also one of my favorites with clean singing parts, being modern black metal anthem for new Mayhem millenium and this band still has so much to offer without only living in the past. You can return there and always be proud of the past, but the reality must lie in the future. Good album.

8,5/10

(review) Anti-Lam Front vs Headless Frank-e.p.

cover

This is in fact a split e.p between Norwegian Anti-Lam Front whom we talked about already couple of times on the pages of this zine and Swedish Headless Frank. Both bands deliver two songs on the record. Anti-Lam Front play mighty melodic hardcore punk with lyrics in their langauge and I am surprised how this band manages to give me goosebumps anytime I listen to their music. Whether their mighty live set at this year˙s Punk Rock Holiday or on the records, these guys just rule. I love Litt av en Khan, god damn it, it is on repeat for days. Headless Frank play Swedish school of melodic punk hardcore like it was played in the 90-ies with lyrics in English and I love Hardships, this song touched me with lyrics and melody. Great little e.p.

FIGHTS is a punk rock band from Oslo, Norway, with influences from the good old scandirock.
With hard drumming, catchy riffs, heavy bass and screaming vocals they are determined to prove those who thinks that rock has died – wrong. The themes in their songs spans from lonely guys who gets high on asbestos and deadly flying fishes.

“Five AM” is their difficult second single. But with even harder riffs than before, and a message to all of those caring so much about everything to relax a little, – well, it might not be that difficult at all. “Five AM” is about the fact that few good things happens after midnight, but it can be healthy and good for you to get away sometimes and care less.

FIGHTS:
Sivert Moe – vocals
Markus Uttisrud – guitar
Sigve Kvitvik – bass Eirik Langva Lie – drums
