Norwegian extreme metal band :BOLVERK: drops ‘Beastly Ways of Man’ audiostream!

Get ready to rock out to the heavy, multi-faceted sounds of Norwegian extreme metal band :BOLVERK: with their new audiostream of ‘Beastly Ways of Man’! This track is just a taste of what’s to come from their upcoming album ‘Svarte sekunder,’ set to release on May 26th, 2023 via Wormholedeath.

According to the band, choosing the first song to represent the album was tough, but they’re thrilled to have ‘Beastly Ways of Man’ lead the way. The track is a true showcase of BOLVERK:’s ability to work within the contrasts of music, and they’ve even managed to sneak in some melody! Fans can expect a mature and growth-focused second album, with nine incredible tracks – including a cover of a Jonas Fjeld song.

(review) Batboner – ‘Flaccid EP’

Batboner from Norway were already featured on the pages of this webzine when I reviewed their last release. Now, they are back with their brand new EP containing four songs and this is the final record with their drummer Zonetripper who left the band and it is a sort of hommage to him. On this new one Batboner continue where they left off with the previous one, delivering eerie gothic punk mixed with raw punk rock and death rock, also some horror punk influences in the song structures. I love how this band on both releases manages to create kind of eerie melodies, meaning, yes, they are melodic but somehow spooky and songs like ‘Flaccid’ could be hits in any goth club because it is a very straightforward and dancable song. ‘litch’ is a song in which those beautiful haunted vocal lines come to forefront and deliver mighty punch in the face and blackened heart. As I can hear this new EP leans more on punk side of things and music is still death rock but with more of a punk touch. ‘Light In The Void’ is a personal favorite of mine with that nice bass melody, simple and hitting through to you. Vocals are again at the forefront but chorus is at the same time more aggressive yet melancholic. ‘Skretch’ is a final song on this EP and leaves me wanting more and saying long live the horror!

(review) Bizarrekult – ‘Den tapte krigen’ (Season of Mist)

Bizarrekult from Oslo, Norway released their new opus with Season of Mist. This opus contains 8 beautiful songs of melodic, visionary progressive black metal with many nods to old school Norwegian black metal like in perfect mix of aggression of raw melodic black metal and clean sung atmospheric melodies, almost out of body ethereal in ‘Du Lovet Meg’. I can’t resist the impression of doom and sludge influences I hear in slow but effective ‘Kongen’. The title song is kind of post black metal, almost cold in space atmospheric masterpiece of work. What sometimes bothers me with bands of this genre that they have too few songs and too long songs on one opus, but fortunately this is not the case here. This one is just the right length and so various to make this a listening pleasure. Eerie and gothic like melancholy turns into blasting almost bombastic black metal hymn in ‘Hvis Jeg Bare Kunne…’, this one being my personal favorite of this opus. Vocals are screamed, but more like anguished sad screams than extreme torture. I recommend for you to listen to this opus in whole total, not partly, because only then you will get the picture of this masterpiece.
