(review) Wratheon – Black Thrash Mass

Wratheon is an entity hailing from USA and this is the first e.p. containing five songs. Now this is what I call fine e.p. that just made my day and made smile return to my face and my old metal heart beating faster. Music of Wratheon is fast mixture of blackened thrash with almost some hardcore punk song parts thrown in here and there or is it only me. I was blown immediately away with superb melody and aggressiveness of In Seance but all got even better song by song. A Fire Burns is also fast song made to pump your fist in the air and ride to battle with, but having also almost sad and anguished melody behind all of the darkness and flame with clever use of keyboards in some song parts. Vocals are black metal like but you can understand almost all what is being sung, so it is another plus. With Crimson Eyes is an all out thrash metal attack with blackened vibe and double bass destroying everything in its path and blast beats bringing black metal in the forefront of aural assault yet also having wicked melody in guitar work. Life is an instrumental with lots of changes in tempo and showing more guitar oriented side of the band. Unescapable Null is for me somehow the darkest song on this e.p. ending in me wanting more and eagerly awaiting for the full length.

(review)REZUREX-Skeletons(Cleopatra records)

Rezurex

Rezurex are back with the brand new full length record and it is a crushing piece of music. The new record contains 11 songs and I can safely say that this is Rezurex album that I like the most of all released until now. The band continued to evolve their mixture of horrorpunk and punkabilly with nice melodies and vocals, courtesy of band leader Daniel deLeon and boy this one really sounds good. From fast and straightforward Creature, also Ghost, to more gentle single for which the video was made Mi Calavera di Amor , featuring guest vocals by Rene from The Brains, this album rocks.  Also, my favorite on this record is Sacred Heart having such superb and sad guitar work only horrorpunk can provide.  I didn˙t like Freddy Krueger influenced Nightmare, being too much rock n roll, too little punk for my taste. Also Dark Side was okay, but not up to the rest of the material on this record. But, more songs like Shadow or Go Away are anthems to remember for future gigs somewhere, somehow.

(review) Off With Their Heads-Character

cover

American punkrockers Off With Their Heads released their new one, called Character. What we get here? We get 8 shiny songs of melodic, emotional, heartfelt punkrock. This is not music for the fans of speedy and uptempo skatepunk hardcore, this is emotional pure punkrock done from heart and having recognizable, perfect voice to follow the song structures, guitar and bass lines. This material is, I don˙t know how to put it, more calm, makes me wanna smile and enjoy the sunny day and have a break from all the rebellion, punk no bullshit middle finger in the air stuff, just hold my breath and enjoy the music. Keyboard in the songs, like in Always Alone, makes the melancholic and yet happy vibe all the more in the front of listener. Also, acoustic parts, like in Take Me Away are atmosphere pure. Great record. Check this one out.
