Remember Žulj from Rijeka, Croatia? They were already featured on the pages of this webzine. Well, they recently released their brand new e.p. and you can get your copy with Monsterbilly Records. This time Žulj deliver six songs and it is fascinating how this band grew from raw chaotic punk of their first release to this, remaining raw and street punk but also delivering melody, oi and untamed punk spirit and love for freedom and do what thou will. Songs are in Croatian language and deliver serious themes like culture of Rijeka, hypocrisy, melancholy, personal stuff and also a bit of fun and joke. Oli´s vocals are stronger than ever and rest of the band is pretty tight and sounds great. This e.p. is diy and you can support the band by ordering your copy from Monsterbilly Records. My personal favorites: Kultura, Melankolija.

(review) Crancy Crock – Ci vuol partecipazione (Gasterecords)

Crancy Crock are Italian punk rock band from Bergamo being in existence since 1997. This time they released new live album with Gasterecords. There are twelve songs on this record, they were recorded during streaming festival Bergamo Strange Music Fest 2020. One of the songs is a cover of Clash´s classic I Fought The Law. The music of Crancy Crock is just excellent melodic punk rock reminding me a lot of Derozer and similar bands. There is something special in punk rock sung in Italian language. The language itself is so melodic, so beautiful, I understand a little, but I would love to learn it one day soon. Dual vocals and harmonies are perfect, melody lines are so sweet, like eating my favorite chocolate pudding and enjoying this punk rock bringing back smile to my face. This one has all the intensity of live record, the only thing missing is the crowd noise, but no matter, this one demonstrates the raw feel, untamed energy and melody of punk rock and reminds us that this is the best scene in the world and why I love it for almost thirty years now. Go, get this one. I love it! Recommended songs: Johnny, 2071, Partecipazione.

(review) Mourning Dawn – Dead End Euphoria (Aesthetic Death)

French blackened doomsters Mourning Dawn release their new record with Aesthetic Death. Hailing from Paris area, these guys deliver their music for all darkened hearts and fiends out there for years. What can we expect here? There are six songs on this beautiful opus. Songs are longer in duration but they do not get boring at all. Music of Mourning Dawn can be described as doom metal with lots of death and black metal influences, so it is safe to say if I describe it as blackened doom metal. That means slower doom sombre guitar work, rolling drums, distorted bass and sorrow and melancholy underneath the brutality. Vocals vary between growling, screaming and sometimes clean vocals depending on the atmosphere in the song structures. There are also some excursions into fast almost blast beat drums and pure black death metal parts of the songs. Lyrically they deal with personal inner battles, death, life and catharsis. My personal favorites on this one are Never Too Old To Die and Conclusion. This is a superb record to gloom your day under a steel grey sky.
