(record review)WEATHERED-Stranger Here(Facedown Records)

Weathered are relatively new in Facedown Records family, this is their first full length out on that label. I listened and reviewed it for this zine.

I must admit that I haven˙t listen to this band prior to laying my paws upon this record. They released three ep-s prior to releasing this new full length. This record contains ten songs of beautiful emo hardcore mixed with altrock and indie influences. What immediately fell to my ear is that the vocalist of this band kinda reminds me on Michale Graves with his voice on some songs. Maybe it is only me, who knows, but I swear I heard it. The songs are smart and well structured and they are not boring, quite the contrary the album flows nicely and I really had a great time listening to this record. My personal favorite song on this record is There Is One, but listen to the record and judge for yourself which songs are yours favorites. Lyrically, this band covers heavy themes through well written personal lyrics. This is a must record for all the fans of more melodic side od emo post hardcore.

(record review)NIGHT SURF-Enemies

Night Surf were already featured on the pages of our zine and now it is time for me to listen and review their new e.p., so read the review and check out their music!

This band is hailing from New York and on this e.p. there are four songs of punk hardcore. What immediately came to my mind while listening to the record is the gritty, almost dark, urban sound of their music and production on this record. Reanimate is a beautiful punkrock song with and awesome anthem, melody and harsh atmosphere. Sleight of Hand is a fast, hardcore song made for pogo, slamming and moshing. The lyrics in all of the songs are personal with themes like, friendship and losing friends, love, emotions, urban life and coping with it….Watersnake is an ode to the urban life, and I saw all the pressure of living in the large city, life and dealing with it while listening to this beautiful poetic song. The title song is fast hardcore punk song with a lot of melody and the message that all of our enemies just make us stronger in our beliefs and our striving to do the things our way. Great record!

(record review)NO REAL HERO-The Forest(Thousand Islands Records)

Canada is for me still unexplored territory with so many awesome bands coming to my attention every month and this time it was my pleasure to listen and review for our zine the new e.p. by No Real Hero from Montreal, out on Thousand Islands Records. Read on!

This record contains an intro called Opening and five songs of melodic punkrock. What immediately comes to mind how tight musicianship sounds on this record. The first song Comfort in Sorrow is a nice, personal mid tempo punkrock song with a memorable melody, beautiful chorus and energy. The vocals are very important to me in this genre of music and the vox on this record are just awesome, neither too sweet or snotty which I don´t like, nor too harsh which I also don´t like in this kind of music, meaning these are just right. Broken Waters keeps up in the same pace as the first song, but has some interesting tempo changes and some grooves which make it an interesting song to listen to. This Is Home is musically and lyrically top song on this record for me. Rather dark lyrics which I can relate personally to, and excellent sing along fist pumping chorus make this song a killer! The Forest For The Trees is yet one more killer song on the record, fast paced and it kinda reminded me of Propagandhi, I don´t know why. Red And Black is fast paced and awesome track, a bit dark in lyrics and music, but fantastic to hear. This record is just great, I recommend it.
