As promised, here is the review for Adam Nevill‘s book which completes all his books that I have read until now. This is one of his latest works and this is a folk horror mastery like we are used to from this author. Married couple Tom and Fiona, along with their daughter Gracey and their spaniel dog move into decrepit country house where previous owner killed himself six months ago. At first, they love it there. Tom does all the work in repairing the house to make it home, while Fiona works at the bank and Gracey is happy. But, then they meet their neighbors Magi and Medea who are not what they seem to be. Gracey starts having voices calling her from the near woods and strange things and curses begin to happen and Tom starts to suspect neighbors have something to do with it. This is another intense and masterful tale of horror master Nevill, happening to ordinary folk who could be me or you, that is what makes it even more scary. There are enough grisly gore parts of the story to satisfy gore hellhounds among you, but also to me best part of Nevill’s storytelling is folk horror part, the fear of ancient and unknown rituals, ancient mages and druids, people who should not be messed up with. In all, each and every one of us had at one time neighbor from hell, isn’t it true? So, all of us should have at one time deal with the problem. Or did we?
Ihsahn, norveška black metal legenda i frontman jednog od najutjecajnijih black metal bendova ikada, Emperora, daleko je dogurao u svojoj solo karijeri. Nakon zadnja dva EP-a, evo nam i novog koji se sastoji od tri pjesme u prepoznatljivom Ihsahnovom miksu black metala i to njegove progresivnije verzije, kao i prog metala, rocka i odličnih klavijaturskih pasaža, kao što je i ovdje slučaj u pjesmi ‘Contorted Monuments’ koja je moj osobni favorit uz udarničku catchy ‘The Observer’ koja odlično miješa Ihsahnove black metal vokale sa clean odličnim glasom gosta Øysteina Heide Aadlanda. Ako se netko nadao da je Ihsahn stao ili počeo izdavati nekakvu mekanu glazbu vara se, ovo je ekstremni progresivni metal par excellence, sa ponekim elektroničkim izletom i catchy melodijom kao što je zarazna ‘Dom Andra’. Dakle, opet je riječ o odličnom EP-u, ali mislim da bi bilo već vrijeme za full length opus kojeg Ihsahn nije izdao od 2018. Siguran sam da će biti odličan, kao što su i zadnja tri EP-a.
Bourbon House released their new record containing eleven songs. The music of Bourbon House can be perfect soundtrack for drinking in smoky bar and listening to great mixture of Southern rock, heavy rock and hard n heavy with superb singer. She is the one whose voice can soar high octaves but also almost angry melodic snarl, depending on the mood of the song, Musicianship is tight and done with strength and conviction, but that would not matter were it not for great songwriting with all of the songs being hits for themselves. From hitters like ‘Resonate’, ‘Villain’ or ‘Blue Magic’ to two acoustic live songs, this band delivers a lesson in hard rock n roll and I am really glad that I discovered this band. This is a no holds barred music, made from fans of rock for fans of rock!
